I'm glad I got my car last year and won't have to renew my registration til 2012. Was wondering though if anyone who has gotten their car recently has had to put on these new nasty plates on their car. Just curious what I'll have to expect come 2012.

For those who haven't seen the new plates:

edit: for those that don't know you'll have to switch to these plates when you renew your registration, you'll also need to pay a fee for the new plates (i think about $25)

According to the NYDMV website FAQ: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/empgold/faq.htm you will not need to get the new plates when you renew your registration. I just registered my new SS less than two weeks ago. I was lucky enough to get one of the leftover sets of old style plates.

Awesome! Best news I've heard, I'll have to let my friends know who have to get their registrations renewed within the year.
