Year of the ZL1

If you read most of my posts I generally look for ways to improve the Camaro or get ahead of the pack. I believe to stay on top you look at what you did wrong not what you did right. All of that being said its time to tip the ole hat to the ZL1. All of the numbers I quote are from MotorTrend online.

Here are the things we Camaro guys can be proud of!!!

1. The ZL1 hits 60 in 3.8 seconds (Thats faster than the Shelby GT500, Boss 302, Challenger 392, Nissan 370Z Nismo, BMW M3 and M1, Lexus IS-F, Caddy CTS-V Coupe, Audi RS-5, Porsche Cayman R, Jaguar XKR and ties the mighty 2012 Centennial Edition Z06) The ZL1 is only one tenth of a second behind the $81,000 Benz C63 AMG !! Lets also keep in mind Chevy said the Automatic ZL1 is faster than the stick.

2. The ZL1 ran the 1/4 mile in 12.1 seconds (That is faster than everyone in the group above including the AMG Benz, but minus the Z06)

3. The ZL1 has 580 HP (Thats more than everyone in the group above)

4. The ZL1 lapped the Ring at 7:41 (Thats faster than well almost everything minus Godzilla(GT-R), the Vetts, and some crazy exotics)

5. The ZL1 has the best interior of any Camaro to date !

6. The ZL1 is offered with a Auto many 580HP cars are NOT!

7. The Camaro in general is the muscle car sales leader and the only coupe to earn a five star safety rating!

8. The Camaro is priced close to or well below all the cars mentioned above

If you have a order in for a ZL1 you officially have A LOT to be happy about!

ZL1 this goes out to you

Two things, 1. NEVER EVER EVER EVER call the 1M Coupe a M1, that is like using a racial slur towards a person and 2. 5 is totally false since the interior is almost literally the same as a 2SS or 2LT, otherwise I agree.

And don't forget, THIS Camaro won the 2010 WORLD Car Design Award.

The World Car of the Year Awards

The World Car of the Year awards were inaugurated in 2003, and officially launched in January 2004, to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale. The awards are intended to complement, not compete, with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs.

Don't dilute his attempt to bestow due honor on the ZL1 with semantical opinion! It's akin to correcting a typo, and for all you know, it was. Thanks!

Well, if it were me, just saying, I'd go slow and let them pass so I could watch them GAWK all over themselves at what I am driving! You WIN BY DEFAULT. No Gas wasting necessary!

Wow if I already was not WINNING after seeing the ZL1 in print yesterday, Chevy has the build it tool up! OH and we also kicked some sand in the face of Ford and BMW!

From the Chevy website not my research!

2012 GT500

The Mustang Shelby GT500 comes close with its 550 horsepower, but it just can't catch up to the 580 horsepower performance of ZL1. And again on torque, the 510 lb.-ft. of torque on GT500 can't touch the 556 lb.-ft. on ZL1. Engineering technology is where ZL1 really tops out. While GT500 has a traditional one-piece, solid axle, ZL1 features an independent rear suspension that's free to pivot independently, vastly improving handling and cornering on rough surfaces. As far as suspension, GT500 again goes traditional, with hydraulic, gas-powered shocks, a stark contrast to the Gen-3 Magnetic Ride shocks on ZL1. Oh, and don't look for an available automatic transmission on the Shelby GT500. It doesn't exist.
2012 BMW 3 Series M Coupe

Camaro ZL1 blows BMW 3 Series M Coupe right off the pavement with its 580 horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8—the 4.0-liter V8 on the M3 Coupe gets you a horsepower of only 414. And it only gets worse for torque: While ZL1 weighs in with a mighty 556 lb.-ft. of torque, the M3 coupe gets you 295 lb.-ft. of available torque. Their Electronic Damping Control system in the M3 Coupe offers one performance setting: Sport. The Performance Traction Management system in ZL1, which includes the highly advanced Magnetic Ride shocks, has five standard settings for sport and track, taking both wet and dry conditions, as well as driver skill, into account.

I know everyone wants their car to be built, and some of us are worried about the options on the car being produced, but BOY this is going to be a great Camaro! Everyone who has one coming or is going to get one in the future just set back and enjoy this moment. I have been down the list from Acura to Volvo and the ZL1 RIGHT NOW is the car to beat for the price. For a guy like me who is a muscle car fan first, we are really WINNING. I say this because the Shelby can't hook up (Look at Motor Trends test of the 2011 Shelby they had to test it twice for the 1/4 mile because the times were soo bad) and I think the Challenger is happy just being a big ole cool retro cruiser. To get a car to beat the ZL1 you have to look at a Ferrari (even the 458 Italia has less HP and torque) Lamborghini, Porsche 911 or Nissan GT-R. Don't believe me check out the comparison tool on the Chevy ZL1 site. Of course that does not show the whole story, but you can check out the performance numbers on MotorTrend if you need more details.

I think now is the time to just enjoy what we have, a beast of a Camaro that is at the top of its game!!
