make sure you can get the car at least 16" off the ground. I think this was the hardest part of the entire install. If you have someone under the car looking at the dipstick, and someone from the top pull it out, you'll EASILY see where it goes/where to put it back when you take it out. The install is pretty easy, the passenger side doesn't have much hand room, but it's doable. It took me about 4 hours on my own.

The shop includes 3" to 2.5" connecting pipes... this the offroad ones you're talking about? Everything is bolt on correct? No welding required or cutting needed after the Sawzall? |

depending on your headers......they should be clamp on....you can have them welded. I have OBX headers and they are the same as Kooks. they bolt on to the headers and clamp on to the stock exhaust.
Yes the connection pipes are the Offroad pipes......same thing.......Offroad just means not for street use because of the cat delete....

Make sure you have a 15 MM deep well socket......it's important
and a spark plug socket if you intend on removing spark plugs....I recommend it as my fiend broke one of his while installing his headers.... Make sure you get the car far enough off the ground...this is more for the removal of the old headers than the installation of the new ones...... I used ramps but i had to jack up the car another couple inches to get the old ones out.......then just let it back down on the ramps for the install.

I just did these yesterday. Here are my 2 cents. Disconnect the battery. Don't take the spark plugs out. Be VERY VERY Careful with the 02 sensors. If you don't heat them you will probably mess them up like we did. They are hard to find. Had to drive 4 hours to pick them up. Def have 2 people and mark the dipstick. We did it with one person on top and one under the car to get the dipstick back on. I got my finger up in there and was able to get it back in. Take your time. Also if you are going to have a tune, dont worry about the rear o2 sensors. Just plug them with a drain plug from your local autoparts shop.

Ted from Jannetty advised me to make sure to reinstall the rear O2's or else I'd get the CEL. I have his SCT tuner. What did you use to heat up the O2's and how'd you mess them up?

You heat up the O2's by driving the car. Crack them loose while they are still warm. If you wait until the exhaust system is cold, it will probably tear the threads up.
Put the rear O2's back in the new exhaust set up, and ask the tuner to turn off the rear O2's codes in the tune. Ted did this for me in my tune from him, and it works perfectly. If you have a 6sp man trans, also ask to turn off the 1-4 skip shift. |

Also, don't close your trunk after you disconnect your battery. You'll have to crawl trough the back and use the emergency release if you do.

1. Don't disconnect the steering shaft...there is a lot of room and this would just make more work for you. 2. Question on the tune, will the obd 2 test by the Mvd say not ready when diagnostics are run, or will it just say that it is ok as if the cats were functioning normally?

Good advice.....
The o2 sensors were a pain and the dipstick.... After you get them installed you will have a big smile on your face..... |

And...don't fear the dipstick tube. I got it back into place on my first try all by myself. I knew what to look for though from reading all the header threads on Camaro 5.

We'll see how the install goes tonight... Went and got an O2 wrench, antisieze compound, and stuff to loosen the bolts which is soaking in right now. Also borrowed a heat gun to warm up O2s to help loosen them up.
