That burning clutch smell?
So I have driven and tracked a lot of different cars with Manual transmissions. I know how to handle and take care of my clutch. However, I have on at least 3 ocasions since getting my car (2 weeks ago, still babying it) got that burning clutch smell. Once just pulling up my driveway! Is this normal for our cars?

I had the same issue with mine. I have over 10K miles on it now. What I learn after driving this car around quite a bit is; it doesn't like to be babied too much. If you try to reduce the driveline noises by being superbly gentle with it, it will just stink up the clutch. I drive in stop-and-go situations quite often, and when I take off in 1st, it is as if I am seriously going to get going. ( i hope that makes sense)
I usually skip 3rd gear for this reason, I might hit the teens(14-18mph) in first, move to second, make it to low 20s and go straight to 4th. 3rd gear is very tall and while I can use it, I have learned that I can be much smoother to the car and passengers by avoiding the whole thing. Hope this helps. Now drive, take chances, and have fun! (but seriously, be careful)

I had that smell for about 1000 miles and now, I don't remember the last time I smelt anything. It is hard for me not to keep my foot out of it every day. I run up the RPM's in first and second and your already in the 70 mph range, it is so easy to do. Love it!!!

Had the smell for about 1000 miles then went away. Hasn't been back.

15,000 miles on my 2013 1LE and it's common, depending on the circumstance.

I get it with the hill assist and when I'm a little slow letting out the clutch. Mines just over 500 miles now so I expect it will quit when I get some more mileage on it.

Hill assist sucks and sometimes the traction nannies will make your clutch smell too. Turn everything off when youre stepping on it.

Have not had the clutch smell either, even with the hill assist. Don't waist any time getting off the clutch, when you get moving come off that thing and kick it in the a**. They love to be driven with authority.
