Intercooler for the TVS 2300

Does any know if there is one made that is already avaiable for the maggie or are people just building them. I need to do something with the summer time heat at the track. Ted said he would build it but I wanted to poke around and gather some more info.

Why would you want to change the intercooler? If you are referring to the heat exchanger, most people see nothing over 20-30 * over ambient....not sure how much better you can get it.

From the times listed in your sig I would say you have a well oiled machine on your hands......

I looking for a way to keep it cool at the track in between runs. I had 3 bags of ice on everything and after and hour it cooled off. Prob was that by the time I got to the staging lanes and got held up the car was back up at 195 and getting heat soaked. I didn't know if they had a tank, mounted in the engine compartment, that I could fill with ice and cool it off that way.

I made a charge cooler in my 1975 Camaro with a 454ci and a vortech, pretty nasty. But I made it big enough so that I can freeze a few plastic cups a of water and drop it right into the tank for track duty. Works really well. I got all the parts from Summit racing.

Sorry, I don't have a 5th gen yet so I have to wait another year or two to find out how to do it again when I install MY maggie.

Good luck though!

I really wouldn't worry about this. I mean everyone at the track is in the same boat of dealing with the heat. Reminds me of a cyclone i once saw with a cooler of ice water being pumped up front.

If your that worried about cooloing the engine why not get one of those co2 spray kits to cool the heat exchangers. This way you drop that temp and let everyone around you know it too

with the 03/04 cobras , they had the ice box .. you could have a larger heat exchanger reservoir (not sure if anyone makes one), you would flush out the system and fill with ICE while at the track ... For the heat exchanger on the maggie, it is the little cylinder looking thing in the back left (passenger side) of the engine compartment)

Might be too much of a PITA though ...

Have you logged any runs? How much timing is being pulled? I've experienced heat soak on my MP122 blown truck, but have never noticed it on my TVS blown vette. The truck heat soaked on a hot afternoon after three back to back to back 20 to 120 sprints (on a deserted airstrip in a foreign country). First time at the track the truck ran three identical 12.57 quarters. Maybe 45 minutes between runs. No heat soak there with hood up and time between passes.

Last time at the track, the vette ran high 11's/low 12's with high 120's trap speeds (no traction in first three gears). I ran it probably 9 passes and results were about the same. Maybe 15 minutes between passes. Engine temps never got over 190.

the blower doesnt make that much heat on 5-6 lbs. at 10-15, things start heating up.
a bigger exchanger will only prolong heatsoak due to more volume of coolant. once its hot,
its hot.

On the dyno, i took a garden hose and connected it to the inlet of the tvs2300 and then plumbed another hose to dump out into the alley. it was good for 11hp. Hard to drag a hose all the way down the track though

I should note the difference betwen run 1 with the as delivered heat exchanger and run 6 was 9hp - so the garden hose idea was only good for a 2hp gain - it shows that blown chevy and you are both right. As delivered their kit is just about marginal but works. and you are correct it heats soak a little bit but just a little - I still say they need to find better cores that offer more cooling for the hard core performance guy. As delivered it works great for the guy looking to make up to 700 and tool around town - that covers 90% of the market

Nope - it is great thing - you guys got it right. But I am sure you would agree off the record the TVS1900 is a better choice for all around driving if the real goal is 600rwhp - plus a bet the cores are happier.

I am a big fan of the Maggie - everyone should know that - true-dat
