Yup, planning on running in the spring... I'm going to try to run down there in two weeks as well, though just to watch for now... Still need my diff and to get the trans working properly...

Ill be out there. Stop by if you go. Never been to this airfield. I had a blast out there. Lots of walking if you dont have a golf cart or buggy Should be alot of corvettes out there this year from what Ive been reading. Ive got a couple of revisions left on my junk before Im done but so far its looking really good. How much boost do you plan to run?

What is the record in the mile now in a 5th gen!!??? I would think over 200mph would be pretty easily done but what kind of time is fast in a mile??? How do you tune for a mile seems like it could be lots of fun!!!!

If I make it down there I'll certainly look you up... Good luck with your runs...

I don't know what you know about the mile, but it's a one car one mile drag race... The faster the car travels the more power it takes to accelerate... it's an exponential increase... I've heard of 600+ HP vettes that struggled and didn't make it...
The current record is roughly 205 mph... This is held by MTI out of Atlanta Georgia... They used a STS twin turbo kit feeding a blower, I think it was a maggie, and showed up with 1050 RWHP...

It takes at least 1000 RWHP in the 5th Gen to go 200 in full street dress... The aerodynamics of this car are not bad, but they are also not great... and it's heavy...

The suspension needs to be pretty heavily modified, you've seen the power above required, and traction is a huge issue...engine heat from a long long hard pull... and air getting under the car at 200 mph is no fun... they become a wing really quickly... The stock SS Camaro may go 150 or so in the mile... maybe even 160, but I think beyond that plan on major mods...

It doesn't seem like alot but consider that at 60 mph you cover a mile a minute, at 120 you do it in 30 seconds, and at 180 it only take 20 seconds... So, say you accelerate to 130 in a quarter mile, my car will do this...and then some, then you have 3/4 mile to accelerate another 70 mph... but you're on the high end and it takes longer and longer to achieve speed... and your running out of space at a increasingly rapid pace... Think about Speedsters comment that it's not the 0-60, but the 60-160 you need to worry about... It takes a huge chunk of HP/torque to go from 120-200 in less than 20 seconds...

My car might go 190 or so right now... and we are planning a substantial power increase to achieve my goal...

A computer model says with traction I go from 0-100 in 5 seconds, and to 200 mph in 22 seconds... It's a computer model but it allows you the visual of how much harder it is to go to 200 from 100 than it is to go to 100 from a standing start... 17 seconds... it's an eternity when asphalt is disappearing behind you in a hurry...

That all having been said... The mile is a blast even in stock trim... for 30-40 seconds you are on the loud pedal for all your worth... there really isnt any other place where you can absolutely hammer it as fast and hard as it will go for that long...and anything over 190 requires some very extensive modifications to the car...

Lol I have no intentions of running my car on salt... Now, if they open the runways at DFW to mile or more runs, I'm in...

Hope all is well with you...

I had intentions of leaving in the morning, but in talking with the guys at the shop I was headed to, the guy that needs to be there has had his vacation scheduled for months... He leaves this week and won't be back until next Wednesday, so ten days from now or so... Not sure what will happen as it is now...

I've said it more than once.. The change in the car with a good suspension is unreal.

I'll have to have them done prior to the Mile run... don't want to be driving an unstable wing...

Amen Brother.

Looking forward to see how your cage turns out... I'm stashing some coin away for a cage/rollbar. I need figure out what the right safety measures are for my ultimate goals. I need a functional back seat when we take the family out for ice cream. So, I'm not sure how I want to do it.

No problem Bud. Keep me posted, since Pumpkin made it to the hoist yesterday I suspect it will be in the dealers hands by the end of next week. Not sure how long they will have Pumpkin to address the issues and whether or not we will be battling over the tranny. The wet weather season is pretty much on us now, more rainy days then dry ones.

Yeah, I tried but I don't think I'll be able to get up that way now before the snows create a problem...

I do appreciate the invite though...
