I changed my oil for the first time and found a bolt...

SOLVED!

I have no clue what it goes to.

Attached are two pictures. The first one is where the washer was poking through the slot opening when the underbelly panel was still attached. The second is of the bolt in question. Any ideas? It's a very common looking bolt so I know it's not much to go on...

Any help would be appreciated.

Car has 5k miles on it. I bought it with 4k.

Bolt is not the same as the one from this thread. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ght=oil+change

This may answer the bolt question:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ght=oil+change

As to the exhaust; a resonator on my 2010 SS had something break loose and caused a 'buzz saw' sound at startup,
but I've not had any issues with the Zed. The Resonator was replaced under warranty.
Not saying that what your sound is... just throwing it out for consideration.

Thanks for the link.

Otherwise, just put it in the gas tank and let it finds it's own way back to where it came from.

That bolt is from the strut brace. Haven't seen another one like it on the car at all. If its got an attached but free spinning washer, I would bet money that's where it came from. I think that one was dropped into the engine bay and lost at some point.

Here is a pic of mine:

Awesome. I'll check the strut brace after work to see if that bolt is a match (I can't see photos on this computer). I know it has all of those bolts in place so maybe when they assembled it they dropped one and didn't want to waste time finding it and grabbed another. Gotta work fast up there. haha.

I dropped one of mine but luckily it was on a lift and it only cost me about 10 extra minutes to pull the belly pan back off and find it. I'll bet that's what happened though.

That bolt looks brand new like it was never threaded in so probably safe bet that it was dropped on assembly line

Yea someone posted that in the second post. Thanks though. I had seen that thread but the bolt didn't match.

I figured out what it was however thanks to Deke736. It is an exact match for the bolts that go to the strut brace. Appearently someone in assembly dropped one and couldn't find it and just grabbed another one. The bolt doesn't appear to have ever been used.

Wouldn't it be ironic if that person was on this forum, saw this thread, and remembered doing this? lol

I heard an old story where an Ass'y Line worker dropped (or put?) a ball bearing in the bottom of a door before putting on the interior panels; it drove the owner and service techs nuts trying to track down the mysterious noise caused by the ball bearing as it rolled back and forth. The cause of the noise wasn't found until the window crank mechanism needed servicing and the door panel was removed.

Nothing to do with your story, except to show that Ass'y Line workers may drop things - accidentally or on purpose.

We found a empty water bottle crushed ontop of a headliner in a brand new dodge journey right off the transport truck at work

That looks like one of the bolts that hold on the stock air intake box. I am sure these are used everywhere else too.
