How much do custom tunes go for?
I just had an E-Force kit installed and looking for a custom tune, trying to compare dyno tune prices vs getting a custom tune made and sent.
What kind of price should I expect on a good custom tune online? |

Depends on what you want. If you want a generic tune for similar cars in your area, its a bit cheaper. I have an Autocal that allows me to email scans taken while the vehicle is cruising, at WOT, etc. This gives the tuner a much better picture of what is going on. The tune for my Camaro was around $300. If your going to do a lot of mods, you want the tune based off scans done after the initial tune is installed. Having a local tuner is convenient, but if you're like me and would have to drive over an hour to get to one, mail order works just fine. In fact, I find it easier because if I make a change or think there is a problem, I just take a scan and email my tuner. I've even started reading the files myself for specific parameters.

A dyno tune by a good tuner is always better than a mail order tune. A dyno tune will cost you between $400 & $500.

Your fortunate to have a great tuner near by not everyone has that luxury. JRE custom remote tunes with logging will rival most any dyno tune. With todays technology we can collect all the data we need on the street. Custom tuning is way more than just a number on the dyno, driveability, fuel economy, cold starts, idle quality transmission shifts are all as important as the peak numbers. Nothing against anyone but most shops dyno a variety of cars and don't' necessarily have the experience to provide a great tune on this platform. They might do 6-10 gen 5 Camaros a year, I tune that many or more every week. Experience makes the difference, not whether it is on a dyno or not Ted.

Yeah that's a pretty normal price. You should be able to find a good shop around there to tune the car for you with out doing a generic mail order tune.

I live in WI and he has done all of my custom tunes for my Magnacharged Camaro the past 2 years. Couldn't be happier with his results or customer service. Thanks Ted.
