problem shifting into 5th gear

well, i was doing some spirited driving two days ago. I had given the car plenty of time to warm up.

i was getting on the car pretty good while going down the highway. i would down shift from 6th to 4th while doing about 60 mph, get on the car and try to shift back up.

well the problem occurred when i tried to shift back to 5th gear. Tried to do it while going down the road at about 80-90 mph and the car wouldn't shift into 5th.

i was no where near the red line for the RMPs. I have no idea why this happened.

anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've had that problem too and it's always when getting on it hard, just won't go into 5th. I also have notchy 2nd and 3rd gears and sometimes won't go into gear at high revs. Seems to be a common complaint with these Tremec6060's!

i tried it again today. i didn't get on her as hard but it shifted with no problem. i'm thinking that maybe i didn't give the trany enough time to warm up.

maybe someone else will chime in.

going high speeds in my SS, i tried to shift to 5th and it wouldn't shift to 5th also.
it seems to be blocked out it just wouldn't engage the gear.

I had the same problem once. Ended up kinda forcing it and grinding a little. I think what I was doing was pushing the shifter too far right toward the reverse lockout, not into fifth. That could be what you're doing.

you're exactly right. that's what it feels like.....like it's locked.

you know what, you might be right. i'm gonna try it again tomorrow and see what results i get. the way i shift i might have been pushing too hard to the right when going form 4th to 5th.

let's see what happens tomorrow.

No way. I have this issue too and you're not doing anything wrong. I've shifted into 5th plenty of times, I have the muscle memory down and it's the same shift every single time. Just today I started getting locked out of 5th and it was the same with the first Camaro I ever test drove from the dealer.

are ya really? i know it's not me pushing too hard to the right man. ther is definitely something off with the tranny.

I spoke to the dealer yesterday and we are going to start working on a solution next monday. It's gonna be tough cause there is no way to predict when the car is going to lock me out of 5th, it just does it randomly.

have you figured out something that would "cause it" so this way when i go talk to the dealer maybe it'll help reproduce the problem.

by the way, where in jersey are you?

Contrary to what EVERYONE says, I believe I get notchy shifts and this 5th gear lock out after the transmission warms up. It didn't happen on the way to work in the morning when the outside temp was like 55ish but it did when the temp was close to 70. When the transmission is cold, most of the shifts (especially 2nd gear) are smooth, but with a little higher effort.

I've been having this problem for a while now myself. First it was 5th gear acting up, now 3rd is doing the same. During hard driving, fast shifting, these gears lock me out. At first I thought it was me, but then I noticed it happened when the car was parked and turned off. It is very sporadic. I'm not sure if the shop will be able to recreate it and they won't fix it unless they can.

Do you guys all have stock shifters (rubbery/mushy)? Or aftermarket ones (precise).
