l99 to LS9 cam swap on whipple set-up?
hey guys, im wondering if anyone swapped the L99 stock vvt cam for an LS9 cam with a dod and vvt delete kit. Any power gains expected on a whipple 2.9 setup on the stock motor?
Thanks.

Much better blower cams out there. Why go through all that money, time and labor to be limited by the LS9 cam? If you want the stealth idle and stock driveability that the LS9 cam gives then there is still other aftermarket choices that will do that all while giving you at least double the power of the LS9 cam.

i agree with Vader on that one,. if your going to go through all that work get a real cam in there. we have cams that work with roots blowers that will net you 80+ RWHP at same boost levels.

Call up Comp and tell them you want a 218/234 118lsa cam using LXL lobes. It's a -10 degree overlap cam. Idle will be barely noticable unless you have stupid loud mufflers w/out cats. Stock like drivability with a good tune More power at just about any rpm vs an LS9 cam.

I know of a CTS-V that is running low 10s at 130 using the LS9 cam (through factory manifolds, cats, and mufflers) so I wouldn't completely dismiss it. I guess it depends on your goals. Sure, it's not the best choice for all out power, but if the car sees way more street time than track time, it's worth considering. In my thread, you'll see where I'm trying to go as big as I can WITHOUT going to rear cogs too. I don't want the cog noise, I don't want the lumpy idle, I don't want a loud exhaust. I'm willing to give up peak hp to accomplish this as the car will be street driven.
I'm also in the process of choosing a cam and I am leaning towards the GT-9. What is your reason for not using it? |

I just got the GT9 cam, if you look at the specs it is pretty much the LS9 cam on steroids. Lingenfelter is one of the best out there, the R&D done there is second to none. I'm not sure of I can post the specs of it, but if you PM me I'll be happy to give you them.

I still think the GT9 and GT11 are great cams. I don't know anything about the other lingenfelter cams.

It comes down to cost and reliabillity. With the LS9 cam you get a power increase with OEM driveabillity, OEM reliabillity and much less cost and maintenance. On a LS3 You only have to change the cam shaft and the cam drive gear to run the LS9 and then you can keep the hood closed. L99 conversion needs a few more things. It will run forever on the stock valvetrain and will have no added maintenance issues. For milder boost applications this will make sense for some people. Lingenfelter will tell you that if you ask.
You can step up to the GT9 cam and spend a lot more for the extra parts required plus the springs will need to be replaced after you have driven it for some time. A little bit more power over the LS9 but about 7x times more initial parts cost plus added maintenence down the road. You pays your money and takes your pick. -Mark.
