Cntryman77's Car Journal (Black/LS/M6)

"Born from Chaos, Nyx is the primordial goddess of the night. A shadowy figure, Nyx stood at or near the beginning of creation. Her appearances in mythology are sparse, but reveal her as a figure of exceptional power and beauty."

Unlike a lot of the owners here, I didn't order my car. I just stopped in at a local dealer one day to look & fell in love. I brought Nyx home on March 10, 2010.

My First Mod

I bought my car as a daily driver, so my first mod was practical. I bought a set of molded splash guards.

I also added a rear plate frame & blacked out my bowties.

The stripe project

After much looking & pondering, I decided I wanted stripes. Being the person I am though, I wanted something different from the standard rally stripes. I decided to mix up 2 kinds of stripes & make my own unique look. The first thing I did was lay everything out on the car using Christmas ribbon & masking tape.

I used this to get dimensions & make a CAD drawing of my stripes. I then printed this out & taped paper cutouts to the car to make sure everything was how I wanted it & that it was the proper size. I removed the dealer plaque off the rear bumper as well.

I had a local vinyl shop make the stripes for me & I put them on myself. It's not that hard if you prep right & take your time. Here is the finished product.

Vanity Rings

While doing the stripes, I decided the silver vanity rings just weren't going to cut it. I really like the heritage wheels though & didn't want to swap them out.

So I made the decision to paint them orange as well.

Since then I've bought a second set of vanity rings & painted them black with an orange pinstipe. These were painted with spray paint & were just to see how it looked.

I like it, but prefer the solid orange ones. I mean how can this not make you drool? LOL

Dash Kit

Now it was time to take my attention to the interior. I bought 2 dash kits & installed them.

I also hard wired my radar detector to the overhead console while I was doing this.

License Plate

I made the jump & got myself some vanity plates. If you know me in real life, these fit my personality well.

Question about your wheels. How did oyu paint them? I was going to order color matched cans of spray paint from a website I have and then clean the trim pieces, scruff them up with some steel wool just so the paint has something to adhere to, prime it, paint it orange, and then clear coat them. Is this what I should be doing? I have an orange LS and think the wheels would look good orange like yours. Feel free to PM me if you wish, I appreciate the help.

that's exactly how I did it...they did get some dings over the winter, so I'm going to repaint them soon...the best way though is to just have a shop do them...I may do that later this summer
