I had a 99 SS with bolt ons that felt faster and more of a sports car. Maybe because it was 400+ lbs lighter. I like the style of the new Camaro better.

I think another reason I want a 5th gen is because I just really want a new car. My 4th gen is really nice don't get me wrong, and to get that car at 16 years old was a blessing, but it's getting kind of old and I'm ready for a change. We bought it brand new at the end of 2001 and it has 156,000 miles on it now, it's been a good 10 years but it's time to retire and break in a new LS3 ! My Z28 had cloth interior and it was an A4, I'm ready for some leather and an M6!

Same with my 98 z28. I have the 2ltrs with the mods below and I will drive the z around town ad then get in the 5 gen to compare and agree with the assesments here.Even though its "only a v6" the car feels just as fast as the z28 in normal driving and acceleration with the same amount of gas, just revs a little higher to do the same thing. The z is more beast and the lt more refined.

There are some other things about the new car I would have change if I could, like order the car without Onstar, Stabitrac, XM, ETC. I just wanted a performance car with leather. But over all, much better than the older cars I thought of keeping my 99 SS for awhile untill a friend of mine bought it from me. I do miss it, but I'm much happier with my new car. |

It killed me when I sold my 02 Z-28 as it was the best car I ever owned. I don't even think about it since getting my 2010 ss.Power of the LS3 makes up for the weight dif. BTW both cars are supercharged.

In my eye's this is the biggest downfall of the 5th gen. I like the solid rear because it handle's fine and you can upgrade easilly to something unbreakable. I like drag racing as you can tell...

My 01 WS6 was a H/C car and was a Fning monster. I loved that thing and wish I never got rid of it. The LS1 felt much faster stock for stock than my LS3. All the torque management and shift point reduction crap in the current tuning is depressing. I imagine that tune-for-tune, the LS3 would "feel" better than a LS1.
Since I'm a slave to my warranty, it will be a few years before I can get my LS3 to a level I'm comfortable with for a muscle car. From an overall driving experience perspective, though, my 2010 camaro is far more enjoyable than my TA. More comfortable, modern interior with modern electronic capabilities, smoother drive, etc. If I could combine the raw power of my modded LS1 car with the driveability and comfort of my LS3, it would be heaven.

I still have my LS1, and drive the L99 daily- there is a notable difference in both torque and high-end power. The main difference is you just don't feel the road the same way... But make no mistake- between added hp/tq and a more sophisticated launch, the LS3 will pin you to the seat in a way your LS1 never has.

The thread reminds me of the LT1 vs LS1 debate when the LS1 z28 first came out. Lots of guys loved their LT1s and were sold on the fact they were better and felt faster. The LS1 had such a refined feel to it. But if you lined the car up side by side, the LS1 beat the LT1.
The 2010 Camaro SS is faster than the LS1 z28. Dozens of magazine tests and track times from owners have proved that. How many major magazines ran 12.9 - 13.0 @ 108 - 110 mph in a stock LS1 Fbody? This is a common time for the 2010 Camaro SS. |

The cars have been stripped. The cars have been on the road for well over a decade. How is this even a fair comparison? An ls1 GTO has gone 10.5 @ 126 stock bottom end NA. I suppose the ls1 GTO has an edge on the fifth gen as well? Not one 4th gen in the 9's with anywhere near stock race-weight. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/drag-r...ck-ci-h-c.html Anonymous 10.877@123.91;02 Camaro Z28 Fastest stock race weight I could find on the list. This car was at 3470 race weight. Still very light considering the cars 34-3500 pounds themselves. Gave this one the benefit of the doubt having no gas and a 150 lb driver. Orange chevy went 11.3 @ 121.5 cam only entirely full weight with 18 inch rims and a 6 speed car. I think the suspension was near stock as well. Also stock gearing. This is far from as fast as these cars will go. Give it some time. Check that list and tell me what the best times are for a full weight NA car that happened by the year 2000? About as much time as you have given the 5th gen..... NOT EVEN ANYONE IN THE 11's! Last edited by ULTRAZLS1; 12-30-2010 at 12:35 PM. |
