Hey, 325 RE-11s might work, but I'd still love to see you trying out NT01s : )
I'm dying to try my new differential. I hope I can find a track day with not much rain; it's getting harder to find one here..

What differential did you get - the Z/28 one? I've been thinking of that. Really interested in hearing the difference once you've tried it!

Dominion will be 40 miles away which will be awesome. Seeing pavement being laid is really awesome. Hope to see you there!

I ended up getting the Eaton ($510 shipped after rebate) unit and Z/28 cooler kit ($500 shipped). It looks to be the best bang for the buck by far. The Z/28 unit sells for $1K as differential itself, and almost $2K if you get the whole pumpkin (which would require buying additional cooling lines to feed into that diff cooler that comes with the pumpkin). Since they are simple Torsen-type differentials (I'm assuming Z/28 unit is also not spring loaded), I don't think there would be any significant difference in operation in between this unit and the Z/28 one. As such, going with the Eaton unit made sense. I only have 417 whp, and it was enough to completely 'open up' my stock differential after a handful of track days; it pretty much became an open differential (though you can easily fix it by using fluid with less friction modifiers). The differential, at least its locking mechanism, looks like a weak link in our powertrain.

Chin Motorsports coming up at VIR this Sunday 25th and Monday 26th. Forecast just keeps improving, so fingers crossed for a rain-free few days.
The Chin format is amazing, btw, for anyone who wants to get good track time. Starts with a 30-minute all-groups warm up session, then FOUR half hour sessions spread out through the day and then a 90-minute all-groups open track session with open passing (point by required). I can usually only get out out for a half hour or so in the final all-group session (at most) before I start to lose focus. It's a hell of a format. You never leave the day wanting more. The final session really keeps you on your toes as the super fast guys come screaming by in all manner of race cars. Brand new 325 Re11s all around, plus this will be my first session at VIR with the monster splitter and wicker bill. Gonna be fun. Pete

So I bought a durometer to measure the hardness of the tire. The new 325s read 40. The old ones read 71-72. From what I can find, that means the old tires were about the same hardness as lousy long-lasting street tires, i.e., rocks. The old 305s lasted me 11 track days. I won't be running these for that long. Pete

Sorry to say it, but it looks like you guys have just been wasting money on that auto car.....
I was gonna rip into the kid, but I guess all of us are really stupid at some point in our lives. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showth...=427279&page=8 Maybe you can change his mind

Had a great few days at VIR with Chin last Sun/Mon. Little bit of wet on some sessions but it dried off on both days. Car felt great with the 325 Re11s, although it's a hell of an experience to brake hard with tires that wide the first few times. Car really wanders under hard braking - not enough to be dangerous, but enough to do some steering correction. You can probably see it in some of the laps at the end of long straights and going into Oak Tree. Once you get the hang of it it's no big deal.
I haven't spent a lot of time with the data, but my best lap time dropped 2 full seconds, to 2:12:86. Probably the most fun thing that starts happening to me as I get my lap time down is that the car starts rotating in some corners (back comes out a little, but not in a dangerous way). Very controllable, feels very comfortable. Just enough to change the angle a bit. That part is loads of fun - getting the car to engage in a slight controlled oversteer like that and knowing well that the car isn't going to do anything dramatic. So this is my last track day of 2015, and it really ended on a high note. Great track, great organizer, and good friends to swap stories with over a beer at the end of the day. Here are some nice laps, some of which are in that high 2:12 or low 2:13 range: https://youtu.be/o7_sUm2acY0
