Top Trim? SS or Z/28
Seems to me like there's been some dispute on here about what should be the top trip on the Camaro, (this would be dependant on a Z/28 release). Some here think that it should be Z/28, other think the SS. a lot of the discussion is scattered in different threads all over.
So the question is, what should be the 'high end' trim on the camaro. just though i'd post up a new thread for this and see what your opinions are. i know it's been talked about a fair bit lately, and the Z/28 is a no-go for now, so apologies if it's a bit of beating the dead horse

I think the Z/28 should be the top trim because thats the way it was in '69 if I'm not mistaking. And seeing as how this car is based on the 69 i feel that it would only be right. Just my $.02

I agree that there are 2 or more different camps on this. I'm old school since I own a 1st gen Z/28. I think the Z should be the performance King hands down but no slushbox, 'vert, HUD, ABL, sound deadner, RS or fake mail slot.

Well, in 4th gen the SS was the top model. I agree with Hylton, depends on which camp you ask. It doesn't much matter. Z28, SS it's ALL good.

Almost any chevrolet can be an SS. Only a Camaro can be a Z/28. My vote was for the almighty Z...
I wouldnt be able to afford one, but thats still my vote...

I doubt that the SS will be the top as they are building so many of them. It was the reverse with the Z28's in the late 90"s. They built a ton of Z28's and fewer of the SS's. Then the SS was the top. I belive this time the Z28 will be the top but they may not build it for awhile. JUST MY .02.

For me, it's the Z/28 as "TOP DOG" with the SS as the number 2 followed by the LT then LS.
Quite simply for me, GM has over done the "SS" nameplate when it comes to Chevrolet. Basically, everything from a Cobalt to an Impala including trucks, pickups and SUV's have at one time whore the "SS" badge and to me, the "SS" doesn't really mean the same as it used to. The Z/28 unmistakenly means power and performance . Personally, I think it was a mistake for GM not to bring the Z/28 out at launch, however, I'm sure if it magically appears on the 2011 lineup ... it would all be apart of GM's big plans to increase sales. Frankly, we didn't much care what the designations were for the first year, but rather were more excited that the Camaro has returned! |

My opinion is they should be equal but different. I think the Z28 should be more like the Z of old. Lighter, firmer suspension, tighter steering, maybe smaller high revving engine. The Z should be like a roll cage away (and removing rear seats, radio, etc) from being entered in the Trans am series. I'd like to see a V8 somewhere between 5 and 5.7 litres, Direct Injection, VVT, manual or auto, redline about 7k, and a hundred or so pounds lighter than the SS.
oh and maybe some nice seats recaro, sparco, or something. |

I must admit, I don't know much about the 1st - 3rd gen Camaros, I know a little about the 3rd but not a whole lot. I always thought the SS was top dog based on the 4th gen designations. Now I know other wise... I'd have to agree with others, the SS though it is nice, it's more of a main stream performer, where the Z/28 is more like the ZR-1 a limited production market top of the line ultimate performer car.
If they do decide to run the Z/28... I hope it's announced either before mine gets pulled for production or before I spend a bunch of money on painted stripes etc... but I have a feeling that will for sure go over MSRP and be limited production... in which case I may not go after it... too rich for my blood at the moment... unless I win the LOTO LMAO! I broke a tie with my vote Z/28 34 50.75% SS 33 49.25%

Before the car's trim levels were announced I would have said that the SS should be the top-level. But now that the SS is out, I'd rather the Z28 take a spot above because I don't want a lesser performing trim level introduced. The LT and SS cover the 300hp and 400hp performance levels, so the only area left is at the 500+. It wouldn't make sense to move the SS name up and have Z28 take what is currently the SS.
