Talking Introducing the JacFab CAI system! Dyno numbers, and videos inside.

It's been a couple months coming, I've dropped a few mentionings here and there, but didn't really want to show it off until I had the cold hard proof from the dyno...

The car (mine) used for the baseline is essentially a stock car, major "performance" mods are:

Dynomax #39494 axle back, and JacFab X-pipe w/ resonator delete.

Nothing that probably effects anything in a positive or negative way... The car has the STOCK tune, and was not tuned to run with the JacFab intake.

The baseline was done at 10:30am, Friday 4/27, and the comparison with the JacFab intake done appx. 30 minutes later after we removed the the stock and swapped in the JacFab unit, ambient temp were 5 degrees hotter while running the JacFab intake.

Baseline : 370.25 hp / 363.83 ft lb tq
JacFab inake: 387.95 hp / 373.11 ft lb tq
That's a +17 hp peak gain, and a 9 ft lb peak torque gain, but there are large areas in the curve where both hp and tq show a 20+ gain over the stock... Here is the video...

Please pardon the dirty car, I had to drive for 4 hrs to get to the dyno, as the only one locally is about 4x the price, and it was cheaper to just drive.

Everyone says that cone filters are superior to flat panel filters because they have more surface area. But my theory was that a flat panel filter will allow a straighter air flow path, while also removing the turbulence in the air stream. Combining the flat panel filter with a large, magic if you will, velocity stack like affair built into the filter clamp allows for maximizing the usable surface area of the flat panel filter, and increasing air velocity at the same time.

We are very happy with the outcome of our first prototype, as it looks to have exceeded numbers of most of the competition without the ADM/APEX intake scoop according to both JRE tests... It should also be noted that the ADM/APEX scoop is not installed on the test car, the factory washer bottle is in place, and the fender wells have not been modified in ANY way to attempt to increase airflow... This was tested just as if it had shown up out of a box to a customer, no further modifications, or additional products!

These numbers are also backed up by track (drag strip) testing where the car picked up 2.5 tenths from last years best time with the only changes being the JacFab intake, and short throw shifter modification (write up in the DIY section on the shifter). However everyone at the track was running a tenth fast due to good air, so if you consider that, we still picked up 1.5 tenths which is right there with what the dyno numbers show.

We currently working on pricing, available color options, and looking at tweaks for the production version to further improve performance, and ease of install.

Thoughts?

Looks like you have some knock retard occuring at about 4k RPM. Are you running 91 or 93 octane?

Back on subject, it looks good and nice numbers.

91 octane, very hard to find 93 here. Almost all the runs had that same dip in the same spot. I figured it had something to do with the timing from looking at the AFR numbers, because they don't change.

According to forum rules I can not discuss pricing on a "non-comercial" section... Didn't think it would be a problem since I don't have an actual set in stone price yet, I am not taking orders, and was just trying to get feedback from the general public about the prototype test results... I have "been warned" for giving a ball park price... Pretty strict around here...

Also thought I would mention that the dic read 25.2 mpg on the way to the dyno with the stock box, which tied the high mileage previous record on the same trip (that I've done about 4-5 times now), and the dic read 26.3 mpg on the way back with the JacFab intake installed. Tried to drive exactly the same both ways, using cruise control everywhere except on large uphill sections always driving 5mph overthe limit, so about 85% of the drive time was at 70mph, and about 10% being about 65mph, with the remaining being less... So I'd say our intake is good for a solid, real world +1mpg gain at reasonable highway speeds...

Good looks, great performance. I like it !!!

I'm waiting for someone to chime in asking about heatsoak with the metal tube...

Any plans for a ZL-1 version ?

Once we get the get the SS version finalized, I'll probably be trying to round up a local v6 car, and then if I can find a local ZL1 to try and use we'll move onto that.

Looks good. Yeah flat panel filters work great too as long as they have enough surface area.

Keep me posted.

That dip has to do with timing....if u look at the stock timing tables there is a small dip right around 4,100 RPM's. I had the same thing on my car when i went to the dyno, created a small "dip" in the timing table and it worked like a charm!

That's what I figured as I don't see any change with the afr there. I personally don't think I will tune my car until the warranty is expired though.

Currently starting work on the second prototype which, will most likely translate over to the production version... Going to be doing a lot of data logging, and play with the MAF position to try and get the AFR closer to the stock range to keep it nice and safe for the public.

Look at just about any dyno graph of a untuned 10+ Camaro and you'll see that dip. I seem to remember Jannetty saying it was the point in which Tq management turns completely off.

Thanks! We're pretty happy with the appearance, and the performance so far. I'm currently working on the 2nd prototype to make install easier for the end user, and currently talking with a plastics company up north of here to have the "velocity stack" piece made in one piece from ABS plastic... The final product should be a very nice piece
