Newbie post, 45th 2LT Coupe in the house
Ok, outside the house.
I, like many, have been lurking for a while. I had a lot of pre-purchase questions, but found almost all of my answers here without even having to post. The incredible amount of activity on this very specifically focused forum has been a godsend. I hadn't bought a American vehicle since the 80s. The turnaround of GM (scoffed at by certain idiotic politicians who said 'let them die') inspired me to rethink the American Car. I had noticed the new Camaros on the road and thought that they looked better than they had for decades. Then I was stuck in traffic one day behind one and couldn't help admiring the nice lines combined with the 'heaviness' that makes you think back to a bygone era. The practical part of me liked what I read about the 2012 V6 advancements. Also, I decided to go with an automatic. I do a lot of city driving, and get tired of a clutch. The new paddle shifters are fun, fun, fun when I get to more open roads. My wife has a turbocharged Subaru Baja WRX STi, so I can get a taste of real shifting there. Anyway, more money for me, less money to the oil companies. I like the new steering wheel. I drove a number of 2011s before the 2012s arrived at my dealership, and the new steering wheel feels much better to drive. Like most, I wish it said 'Camaro' instead of having the gaudy gold bow tie. The 45th badge on the bottom edge is a nice touch though. My wife, btw, supported my choice of car. She decided that I would be 'even sexier' with a Camaro. So, that was decided... I went for the 45th Anniversary edition for the subtle grandeur. A little bit of flash on top of the 'sparkle only in the sun paint.' My dealer located the exact model I wanted at another dealership. A coupe with a real spare tire. I skipped the sunroof to keep that inch of headroom and to preserve the nice lines of the 'crease' in the roof. Another thing I prefer about the V6 style is the lack of front ground effects and air intake. I prefer a sleeker, lower profile design. Don't we all appreciate the different flavors amongst our machines? Choice is good. Found out a couple of days before I bought that my company was a 'GM Supplier.' All in all I cut around $1500 off the sticker. Some of you will hate this... This beauty will be my primary commute vehicle. I bought it to drive as much as I can. And in five years if I have worn the girl out, maybe I'll look into the 50th anniversary edition complete with hover capability and a slaver stasis field instead of airbags (look it up). Flying cars! They promised us flying cars!!... P.S. Not planning any heavy mods. I've already replaced the dome/trunk/license lights with LEDs from aacstyle.com. Thinking of getting the 'Plasmas' for the DRL. Other than that, I need a mount for my iPhone. I know many complain about the lack of a high-tech, touch screen system in the Camaro, but for me the iPhone does it all. NAVIGON for iPhone is an excellent GPS app. The head unit is simply an amp for iTunes, streaming radio, and for bluetooth phone calls. I might replace the front and rear bow ties with 'chrome' ones. Gold mostly only looks good on a woman's skin. Lastly, I may disconnect that silly center speaker and look into upgrading the other speakers. Peace and Camaro coolness to you all. Pictures? You want pictures? All shiny on a sunny day: Just after giving her a first wash and wax. Sadly, it's overcast. The 2011 SS 'vert in the background appeared as I was pulling out my iPhone. I talked to my first fellow Camaro owner for a few minutes: I added a sticker. RIP Steve Jobs. Bonus pic from later that evening showing some nice beading and streaking after a little rain. The wheels are lit up in red from a bar's neon light: Another bonus pic showing the beautiful blue light effect on the passenger door: |

Nice Ride! Don't think I would have drove her in the rain so soon though. It took me a few months to get over my "protectiveness"! I still think twice about it.

Had to pick mine up from out of town after warranty repair and in the middle of nasty storm... my vert stuck the road and handled so well that I drove it the next day in the storms that followed since it handles better than my SUV! and to the OP, welcome aboard! I had to check the pics to make sure it wasn't me in the background as I have frequently been stopped by other Camaro owners and chatted ... but nope ... not in the Nashville area! |
