Complaining about carbon monoxide???

Hey guys...I drive a 2013 ZL1. Recently brought it in to get a cam, headers, and pulley. In the process we removed the cats just due to all the stories of people at similar power levels blowing them out. A few of my neighbors are asking about my no cats setup and asking about the dangers of carbon monoxide...long story short, on of them decided they want to buy a CO meter to test it. I'm assuming they are going to raise all kinds of hell if it reads really high. What should I expect when they test it?

Are they standing behind your car for long periods of time? Tell them to get a life and move on

Im not an expert but heres what I am guessing.

Well. It will read high. Really high. This will also most certainly make them and the co2 meter smell really really bad if they stand behind your exhaust(especially if they want you to give it a few revs). So let them know that before this testing happens. Hope they dont make a big deal of it. If so, get fake cats put in and they will be none the wiser....

Better yet... buy a Diesel pickup, remove all emissions and turn up the fuel. Tell them to stand right by exhaust with the CO meter and their face right by the pipe. Let'r rip lol.

The CO meter won't read much off Diesel exhaust

Why would you let a neighbor CO test your car? Who cares what they think. In the words of Eddie Murphy:

"Tell em to have a coke and a smile and STFU"

First of all, what type of Detector did they buy? If it is a usual indoor type for checking Carbon Monoxide levels from a furnace or water heater, than it will be ruined almost instantly and who knows what it will read. They are not designed to read large amounts from a car exhaust. Even cars with Cats will still emit Carbon Monoxide at too high of levels for these types of meters to read accurately. Proper detectors are not cheap.

Secondly, what authority do they think they have to even test it or make it an issue with you? Why do they know the cats are gone? Why are they around your car enough to think it posses a health risk? Carbon Monoxide poisoning is based on the measured levels AND how long a person is exposed to it. A few seconds or minutes around a car with no cats (even emitting ultra high levels) will have ZERO health risks. (Obviously you aren't running the car with them in a closed garage or something silly?)

Personally, I would tell them to mind there own business.

OP: If you live in the city limits of Baton Rouge, doesn't Baton Rouge have an emissions test for a MVI or is it New Orleans only?

i don't even have words to respond, is this for real or are you messing with us
Do you have emissions tests in LA? They do not have it in FL anymore so if it isn't law then tell them to F off or tell them to plant a dozen trees to offset your hate for the environment

You tell thenm to measure the CO2 that come out from their lower back , assuming that they have the ,,,,,, to do it
Explain to him that to have a more accurate reading , they have to stick it in up to 12 " , then he will know for sure , that the system is a go !
If it passes the teste , you turn around and tell him that for comparison sake and accuracy , he has to do it twice in a 2 hours window , if the numbers match , or within 2.35% up or down ,mother the equipment is calibrated
Only then you tell him the $$$$$uck himself and take a Selfie doing so !
That's all clear now ?

They may be able to report you to the DMV or the state health department.

For them to test your car, they have to be behind it and YOU have to turn it on. Simple solution, when the time comes, don't turn your car on and tell them to f*** off.
