Just saw it on local news just now Looked bad and they said at least two cars were submerged; possibly with some people trapped inside. Hope everyone was able to get out Ok. Althought cause isnt own yet of course, aging roadway infrastructure that's not being maintained is a significant problem is some areas of the country....

Just dandy. I'm heading to Whistler tomorrow.

Right now, it sounds like an oversize load hit the bridge.

I'm heading over to Winthrop Saturday, myself. Going to be going via Darrington, so this shouldn't affect me too much.

Traffic there is going to suck. My "hometown" is Oak Harbor, and I still go to Anacortes since that's where my mom lived. Usually I go via Best Road, which means I usually get off I-5 at the Conway/Lake McMurray exit and go west near LaConner. That route might be a good way to avoid this mess, because you go through the tulip fields and can kind of take the side roads. Heck, you don't really even need to head back to I-5 until Bellingham if you take Chuckanut instead of taking 20 back to I-5. I'm sure that will still be a mess there too.

Oh yeah, can't think of a better weekend than Memorial Day weekend for that bridge to collapse. Gonna make traffic a nightmare!
There are a lot of scary bridges in WA - we need to get them fixed! There are at least six bridges in Spokane that are listed as "structurally deficient". eek!

This bridge will likely be down all summer as well, which isn't going to be fun.

Looking forward to Winthrop tomorrow though

1:20 minutes to bypass 6 miles of I-5. The delay made me get stuck in Vancouver rush-hour. :-(

I went across it last night at 11 and was only a 5 minute delay.

The Darrington route is such a prettier drive anyway.

About 20 minutes to get through the mess around 2:30 today. If you are heading south through town, take the very first right at the end of the bridge. It goes back under I-5 and you can get to the on-ramp from the west side of the freeway. Probably saved 20+ minutes since everyone else was stuck at stoplights in town.

I love my navigation.
