buying a 4th gen camaro I have some quuestions

well I have a 05 impala and I want a car I can have fun in but I don't need a new care just something I can work on. I was wondering if I got a v6 manual can I do burn outs with both wheels spinning because I seen some that only have one tire spinning. And how much do I look to spend for it It just has to be running

get an '01 or '02 3.8L V6 car with manual transmission... its about as good as you're going to get for fun with the V6... I believe some of the V6s had the limited slip diff, but replacing the open diff with a posi unit isn't too hard to do... taking it to a local drivetrain shop would probably cost you in the area of $600 to get the parts and do the swap.

honestly, though, there are LS1 cars to be had now for anywhere from $4000-$6000 with high mileage... I'd just get one of those, enjoy the V8 while it lasts, then put an LS3 or modded LS1 in when that engines finally goes south.

but you have to keep in mind that there's more to the swap than just the motor. the trans, suspension, electronics, fuel system, etc all has to be changed when putting a v-8 into the v-6 f-bods.

if you get a v-6 4th gen, try to find one post '95 so that it has the 3.8L v-6 as it is a little more robust than the 3.4L.

however, as mentioned above, you can find v-8 4th gens for great prices. sure they might have some miles or some peeling paint or a busted center console, but thats minor cosmetic stuff.

as far as a v-6 doing a dual wheel burnout, check the rpo codes for a G80 for a limited slip rear end.

Don't be afraid of high mileage ls1's as long as they've been taken care of. I just turned over 180xxx on my 99 z28 and it still pulls like crazy and runs strong(I will admit I do tend to get on it/hot rod it more than I should considering the mileage, but it hasnt given me any major problems since I've had it). I got mine 4 years ago and it was bone stock, down to the paper filter.

I've added a few little things but nothing big. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Keep fluids changed/checked regularly and your basic vehicle maintnence up to date and you should be fine.


I wouldn't get a v6, I'd hold off until you can find a LS1 you can afford.(<--From experience) I still have my 99 3.8l that I drove for about a year before I found my z28. After driving my z for so long, whenever I decide(which is very, very rare) to drive my 3.8l it seems so freakin slow and sluggish.

Thanks for everybodys help I think a z28 would be the best bet I guess I just didn't want to spend to much so I might just wait for the right deal .

quick reminder, 2001, 02 LS1's come with the LS6 intake manifold
