Windshield cracked.

I was driving the SS when an suv shot a piece of rock into my windshield.
It cracked and now needs to be replaced. $500 for a replacement with hud and remote start.
Has this happened to a lot of camaros? This is the second time I crack a windshield. Happened on a 2012 Camaro SS and now on my 2013. The first one was on highway. This time city driving on a surface street.

Had the car 4 years and never had a windshield crack. Sorry about your luck. Just out of curiosity, what does the remote start have to do with your windshield?

Also, what does the HUD have to do with it? That is just projected up from the dash and doesn't need anything special in a windshield. Or is that not the case?

The HUD actually has a slightly more reflective patch on the windshield, for higher visibility in glaring sunlight.
Remote start has an antenna built in to the top of the windshield.

That's the one "problem" that is not a problem. Insurance covers glass.

My insurance covers it too, but my carrier requires a deductible. Which I have mine @ $500. I guess I should shop around for insurance co. that covers windshield with $0 deductible. Lucky you.

Some states require insurance companies to cover all glass with $0 deductible. If yours doesn't, you can probably get a glass rider on your policy for a small fee. Ask your agent. Yes, the HUD requires a special windshield with a reflective coating. You can use a regular windshield, but the HUD image won't be as clear or crisp as it should be. Sorry about your luck. $500 is a big hit.

Oddly I had my windshield replaced twice when the car was only 2 weeks old. The windshield was defective from the factory, it had some discoloration on the sides so the dealer replaced it under warranty. The installers did a crap job and it was crooked so they ordered a new one and installed it. If they know what they are doing you wont notice a difference with the new one. If at all possible ask for an OEM windshield. As far as rocks yeah it's pretty much luck of the draw, you're the big winner. Hopefully you're all full up on windshield cracks for a while.
