Window decal
Can anyone give me their opinion on how hard it would be to install a decal on the outside of the rear window? http://fastdecals.com/shop/comic-car...l-sticker.html I was thinking of putting that on the outside of the rear window making it as big as I could to fill in from top to bottom. I found the gill stripes easy enough to do applying them wet but this will be much bigger so I'm not sure how difficult it would be.
Thanks Tom |

Depends on the material. I've always used vinyl and found it quite easy to apply. But if you're going big as you can you'd probably need a bit more patience and don't rush it. The other problem is access. Even a small decal in the centre of the rear window can be a pain if you can't reach it. So you have to decide how you're going to do it: going to climb on the trunk? Have a ladder on the side?
It's doable, but I personally wouldn't recommend something big if you haven't done it before (and the small stripes don't count) I'm also sure you could find someone to do it. Around here there's and shop that does vinyl installs on your own stuff (or stuff they order) because they don't make the decals. I sign shop may or may not do it for you. |

This vinyl sticker is only 3x9. Because of the location, it was a PITA.

Thanks guys I guess I will check with a local shop before I order to see what they say. It is something I want to try it myself and I am meticulous but that makes me picky also.

Please tell me the decal will be perforated and won't block your vision out the rear window.

No it would not be perforated but I don't know how much of a difference it will be with the dark tint I have on it now. It is something I have been thinking about though and why I would like to put it on myself so if it does not workout I am just out the price of the decal.

Not sure what the laws are in you state are but I can't imagine that would be very legal . With out perforations I imagine you will get a ticket pretty quick . Good luck .

My understanding is with a side mirror on the passenger side I should be fine.

I know in some states visibility is not required if you have a passenger side mirror. Think about box vans.

i see you pulling the car into your garage and making a sling allowing you to hang from the ceiling or rafters like superman while you try to steady yourself enough to apply the decal.
please take pics of the whole process.

I can reach past the center of the car from the ground at the top of the window. If I try it I will apply it wet and use a second person to help lay it on the window then I would work the water and air out from the sides. I stopped by one local place and they said it would be about $75 but didn't seem real interested in applying a product they did not supply. I am going to order the sticker then go to the people who tinted my windows with the sticker and see what they say.

I got a local Specialist shop to install it for me for $25 and I think it came out good. Rear visibility is a little worse but I can see through his legs good to see right behind me.

If you leave the decal on long enough it will not fade as the rest of the tint fades. So when you finally pull it off you'll still see it in darker tint.
