This car = some serious fun!

Well,....normally, I'm a very calm,...reserved type of driver. I almost always do the speed limit or 10 over to save gas,....I try to stay away from the 80+mph, but yesterday, my foot had a mind of it's own, and OMG! This car is so much damn fun to drive! I figured out a little trick I never knew about the car, I think it's called "power breaking" or something along those lines. Well ususally when I want to go like 90+mph I floor it and the car takes off like a bat out of hell, but yesterday, I floored the gas pedal, it then brought the RPMs up to like 4-5k then instead of keeping the pedal down, I let go of the gas and the car just made a serious growl,...like it was about to take off but instead revved up high and continued to do my normal speed (60mph).

Once I knew that I could get the car to growl by stepping on the gas which brings the rpms higher then letting off of it, I was in heaven! lol. I was doing it all day! I was really causing a show! I had to pass my job on the way to the movies, so I was in the parking lot, and it was raining and it was like almost empty, so I said let's have fun, I floored it when my coworkers came out and let off of it, and the car just was making this loud growl! They were all like WOW! That thing is bad ass!

I wondering how much better it would sound with a new exhaust,...like the borla ATAK exhaust. <3 <3 But I also played "slip and slide" with the car too, I took off the stable-track and traction control and I floored it hard and immediately the car started burning out and sliding every which way in the rain! It was so much fun! lol. Oh, and just when I thought the fun was over,....I'm at a red light and there is this Infiniti g37 with some guy at the wheel,...he's looking over to my car then he sort of "ifs" at me by letting of his brakes back and forth, he then revved his engine too, so that's when I tried it and the engine just roared at him, then the light turned green and he hit the gas hard tried to take off all fast, so I floored it and let her rip! I sped past him and he was like WOW. We made it to the next red light and he honked and asked me, "man that thing is amazing, how many horses you packing?!" I said, 426 horses and 420 torque,(even tho it's a L99) he then says...man I cant compete! We both laughed then drove off.......CALMLY.

All in all, I had a great day with my car! If only I knew how to bring the rpms that high without taking off earlier i would have been done this!! Now I'm doing it all the time! I need to quit, because I'm seriously burning gas! Anyway enjoy your car guys! Oh.....and LS3 guys, I can only imagine how you feel behind the wheel. Making me wish I went with the LS3, but Im happy. Plus when I was buying the car my dad kept insisting "oh if you don't know how to drive stick and this is your first time get the auto, forget the gains!" Wish I wouldn't have listened!!

So at 60mph, you pushed on your brakes and your gas at the same time?

Yeah I am kind of lost on his post. Power braking is sitting still holding the brake and flooring it. This means you barely move the car and the back wheels are spinning like crazy eating rubber and your brake pads.

Not to mention tearing the shit out of your crankshaft.

No, I didn't push the gas and the brakes at the same time....I floored the gas pedal then took my foot off the gas and the car just revved the engine, it didn't take off it just continued to do 60 but it made lots of noise like it was going to take off. I wasn't "street racing",...I just brought the rpms high, then let off the gas! It produced a good growl. PERIOD.

I really hope you don't end up on the news acting like that.

btw you're punishing your torque converter lol
I didn't do anything detrermental. I just revved the engine. But that's what I was going to ask,...can revving the engine like that damage anything? Like you said...the "torque converter"? How am I damaging it?

Well if revving the engine during a roll is hurting the engine,...I WILL STOP.

It sounded great though.......thanks for the info.

guys if I remember correctly, I believe when I was going trough the owners manual I saw something about pushing the gas down quickly and letting up quickly. Seems like it said something about it puts the car into a passing gear so you can get ready to pass in a case like when your waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so you can pass. I'll have to look at this when I get home.

I don't know that what you're doing would be considered "revving" the engine... from the way I understand your story, you're mashing the gas in auto which will cause it to immediately downshift - because it thinks you're passing. Then, when you let off of the gas, after the downshift, the "growl" you hear is just the engine running at higher RPMs in a lower gear... then it probably upshifts pretty quickly after realizing you're not passing. Either way... I wouldn't do that to any car I own, and I don't even own a Camaro yet. If you really want it to growl, just slip it into N, rev, then back into D. That's got to be safer for your drive-train than what you're doing. Or, couldn't you even drive it in M mode and use the tap shifters to accomplish the same thing?

That's my $0.02 - take it for what it's worth.
