Are these people having issues using the stock tensioner? The stock tensioner is what fails and in some cases this can take out the chain. We have done a lot of testing with camshafts and multiple timing chain set ups with the G8 GT. Many people with this platform which is just like what is in the new Camaro, have taking their engine apart to do a cam swap and found their stock tensioner already in pieces, we switch to the Gen 4 timing chain damper which does okay and use the stock timing chain, everyone is doing this with the G8 right now and noone has had a problem, it is reinforced better than the old ls1 chains. To put a double roller chain in, you have to grind a rediculous amount of material of the timing chain cover. So, with all the testing that New Era and quite a few other shops have been doing with the G8, use the stock timing chain unless you are going with a very radical set up, and get rid of the stock timing chain tensioner, and switch to the Gen 4 damper used in 05-06 gtos and 05-07 vettes.
