Scosche and Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH

I installed the Scosche GM5201B Kit with the Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH in my 2010 Camaro 2SS. Here are some things i learned while installing it.
1. You do not need to connect the blue/white wire for the Remote AMP if you have a factory AMP. I contacted Scosche to confirm this.
2. You do not need any additional controls for the steering wheel controls to work. The Schosche kit takes care of converting the signal from the swc to the radio. For the pioneer just plug the 3.5" male connector from the scosche wire harness to the pioneer radio.
3. If your steering wheel controls (SWC) do not work, get in the car, disconnect the two connectors from the scosche gm5201b, close the doors, turn off the car, remove the key and let the car sit for 7-10 minutes. Make sure you dont open the door or activate anything while sitting there (Bring you phone and play games on it while you wait.). After this, plug in the larger plug first and then the smaller. Start the car. I had an issue with my controls and this fixed the issue. Also make sure you select pioneer in the setting on the scosche touch screen.
4. If you want Onstar to continue to work, purchase the Onstar module from scosche. This will plug into their wire harness and allow you to use the Steering wheel control to activate onstar.
5. When installing the scosche kit, i found it went in easier if i removed the screws that are located on eaither side of the console just under the dash. to get to these screws you must remove the side panels on the center console. one screw is on each side of the console. The scosche kit is a very tight fit, but it will slide in. make sure you dont just push on the front of it. If you do you will probably break the rear piece off or atleast crack where it is welded together. This is a plastic weld. instead make sure as you try to slide the scosche kit in you try to support the bottom peice. I have installed mine a couple of time and the second time was much easier than the first, because the first time i was like there is no way this thing is going to fit, but it did.
6. The gauge cluser will be tight when it goes back in as well. Some people say you need to remove the cigrette light to get it to slide back in, i didnt need to remove anything, just slide it over the gear shifter, and push it back into place. My car is a 6 speed, so i just put the car in 4th and had no problems with reinstalling the cluster
7. You can not use the usb adapter in the center console with this head unit, you can however get the CD-IU51V which is the iphone/ipod cable. it is long enough to rub back to the location where the orgional usb connector was.

IF you have any questions about setting up the pioneer z140bh and the scosche kit, let me know. I will be glad to let you know anything i have found out. So far i like the look of the kit and how it functions.

Glad your did ok. For some of us it was a pita if you got the the 1st version. The fist version the steering wheels controls did work you could update the firmware if you could it bricked the lcd screen. I bought a pioneer AVIC -Z130BT. I bought dash kit when it just came out so I got the first version and it took me 3 hrs to get the radio in. The rca plugs kept getting in the way. I waited 10 mins connected dash kit when just as been posted the steering wheel controls did not work. I then tried to update the firmware could not get to installed. Called Scoshe ts and told the backdoor way to get the update installed. I got the update installed the first time I turned on the car the dash kit did work. ts told me to do the 10 min reset again. Did that but still it did not work.
They was just getting the 2 version out with the new software and firmware done. I sent it in and got the 2 version. Installed the radio and dash kit and worked all right. The only thing I have a problem with it now If the sun is shinning in the passenger window it hard to see the LCD screen

Good write up. I've been kinda waiting on the sidelines on this one. I have an AVIC-Z120, so it's pretty much the same beast. Where did you buy your Scosche kit from?

I have the same setup - Had my Radio guy install it on Saturday - but the Scosche unit crapped out and would only light up if the plug was wiggled, and would go black as soon as the plug was released. So need to call Sonix and Scosche to get an RMA for a newer unit. I got it during the winter and waited til spring to install.

Ok here a pic of the completed install. Dont really have any other photos from when i was installing, there was enough stuff laying around in the car without trying to take pics too. I started to take some, and i did of connecting the scosche harness to the pioneer harness, but didnt take any more after that.

In additon to the nav unit, i also installed a reverse camara and the xm receiver for the nav unit.

On a side not, the lake phone is working again. Suprising.

did you do this all yourself and did you have the connectivity package on the car if so does your USB work and your steering wheel controls you dont need any additional connectors?

Yes did everything my self. Pretty much just follow the diagrams from Scosche and Pioneer and connect the pioneer wire harness to the scosche wire harness. From there its just pluging the scosche into the existing car wire harness. Nothing to cut on the car at all.

Steering wheel controls work just as before, you dont have to buy anything else. If you have onstar and get the onstar module from scosche you will be able to used the swc to initiate a onstar call like before as well.

You wont be able to initiate a call using the pioneer bluethooth however with the steering wheel controls. For this you have to push the button on the poineer unit, which isnt a big deal, as its the first one on the left of the pioneer nav unit. (note that pressing this button down will mute the radio.)

My car did have the connectivity package. the existing USB will not work once you install the pioneer and scosche. However i ran the usb connection from the pioneer to the place where the existing usb connection was. and I purchased the Pioneer CD-IU51V which is basically lets you hook your iphone/itouch to the pioneer and use it for a variety of things besides just listening to the music. You can watch videos off the iphone/itouch with this cable as well. And its a 1 amp connection, so you can even charge an ipad from the connection, something i havent been able to do with a cigrette charger. If you have an andriod you dont need the cd-iu51v. just connect directly to the pioneer usb cable.

Yes i have heated seats and yes the kit allows you to continue to use the heated seats. the controls are on the scosche touch screen. Two levels just like the orgional.

As far as the antenna, i didnt use the existing xm fin antenna becuase in my experence, it sucked with the exisiting radio, so i just placed the pioneer xm antenna on the rear trunk. its really small and it doesnt bother me that its there. I'll get a photo of it tommorrow if i remember. If you want to use the existing XM antenna, then there is an adapter for connecting the xm unit to the existing antenna. I think i actually bought that adapter, but i ended up not using it.

I did use the existing FM antenna for the FM/HD radio. There is an adapter for going from the existing radio antenna cable to the on on the pioneer unit. i dont have the model handy right now, but i will try to dig that up as well. When you install an aftermarket unit, you cannot use the XM receiver that comes with the factory radio. You will need to purchase a universal XM tuner and connect it to your aftermarket unit.
