Dodge will be having a rough time

Hey guys, I'm new.

Currently drive a 3.5L Dodge Charger. Very nice car, RWD and everything, but I've always been a pony car kinda guy.

So...

for $35K you get

Challenger R/T
378hp 5.7L Hemi (330hp to the wheels)
6-speed manual
Track suspension
20" Wheels
Positraction

0-60 in 5.1 sec
13.6 sec @ 104.9 mph

Camaro 1SS
420hp LS3
6-speed manual
track suspension
20" wheels
Brembo brakes
Positraction

0-60 in 4.7sec
13.4-second quarter-mile at 108mpg

So really, with the Camaro you're getting SRT8 performace for an R/T price. I know that in 2 years I'll have a very hard time deciding which to go with. Hopefully for Dodge, they'll be a bit more competitive by then.

Remains to be seen how well the camaro drives (the LX platform is luxury car smooth and handles very well, that's for sure), but unless dodge can offer brembos and >410hp for the 1ss price point, it's no contest

+1, except for this...

The Challenger is an IRS platform, however it's awefully "cushy".

where was 12.9? all i saw for the SS was low 13s (edmunds)

The LX cars all have 5-link independent rear suspension btw. R/T can get Road & track springs and shocks and the SRT springs/shocks/sways are better still

It was released with the start of production by GM, that the M6 SS will return a 12.9 1/4, and the A6 SS will do 13.2.

EDIT: UFC w00t beat me to it.

Sweet. Better than SRT numbers. Unbelievable. 2010 will be a very interesting model year.

You are being too kind. I drive the R/T and really, really wanted to love it, but it was simply a tank.

I know the SRT is supposedly the top dog Challenger, however for all that extra money over the RT you don't really get very much. 50HP and Brembo brakes is about all it boils down to. Those Brembos only stop the SRT about 4 feet shorter to boot.

I went with the RT back when they were EP++ and it ended up being $10K less than the SRT, and about $5K less than a 2SS/RS, plus 0% financing.

Finally, it seems most folks are getting under 5 second 0-60 times in the Challenger RT. 4.7 - 4.8 seems to be the average. I think the reason behind that is the fact that when optioned with 20" wheels you get 3.92 gears. Mine has this option and I can tell you it makes a big difference.

I've not gotten mine broken in enough to do any 0-60 testing as of yet. The RT has a built in 0-60 timer in the EVIC computer so I'll do some once I get 1,000 miles or so on the motor.

Would it be fair to expect the Camaro to handle similar to BMWs and the Challenger to handle similar to Benz's??

Did you get the R&T suspension?

Also does your EVIC have all the perf pages or just 0-60?
