EXPEL - clear bra installation
Has any ZL1 owner considered wrapping their entire vehicle with either
EXPEL Ultimate or 3M clear bra paint protection film ? It can be done in clear (glossy) or matte finish. I like the way that EXPEL can be wrapped around the edges and has a "self healing" ability. Check out the EXPEL video wrapping of the entire vehicle in matte finish: |

Between the two films mentioned it is no contest. Xpel Ultiamte is a MUCH better film than 3M. In fact 3M is one of the lower end films out there... even though it is one of the most expensive. I test out all the new films on the market and 3M is one I stay away from. I have also done a lot of full vehicle wraps... but not a Camaro yet. In most cases its overkill unlesxs you have a high end car or an exotic paint job. If you are going to change it to a matte finish then the entire car nees to be wrapped.

I'm having clear bra, rockers and mirrors done (at a minimum) with Xpel after I take delivery. Have pricing already, just need to schedule.

Does anybody have an idea for how much it would cost to expel the entire car?
I am digging the matte look. |

What about clear bra removal ---anyone have any experience with this.
If I were to clear bra an entire car will the clear/paint be damaged in any way after years of application? |

They say it will not do any damage to the paint if and when it is removed. I just got the call saying mine is finished, Xpel Ultimate, so I'm going to pick it up Thursday. I'll ask him about it when I pick up Natasha. This guy does the exotics and high end cars and has been doing it for over 30 years so I'm sure he has taken some off. I'll let you know after I talk to him.

Awesome.
Can you also ask him about care after application? Can you wash it with anything? wax? not sure how waxing would look on stealth (Matte) but good to know. |

By the way film has barely been out not quiet 20 years... so if your guy told you 30 then he is a little full of it. Paint protection film was originally developed for the military during Desert Storm for helicopter rotors and aircraft wings.... and someone figured out a few years later it could be applied to cars. It got started in Colorado initially. |

What does it do to the finish? I don't want to lose my glossy look.

Xpel Ultimate is every bit as glossy if not MORE glossy than the original GM finish. It also has less orange peel than your actual paint does, and my front bumper is actually smoother now with the Xpel on it than it was when it was "naked". It is great stuff, bugs wipe right off, stone chips are non existant, and I now have way more "confidence" driving on the freeway where I used to constantly worry about getting a big rock chip on the face of the front bumper. I had all the same worries as anyone else prior to the install, but when I got the car back I couldn't tell it was even on there. I opted to not get any on the hood or fenders, and while my paint is vulnerable in these areas, you simply cannot tell there is any clear bra on the car at all. It isn't cheap, but it was the best investment I've done to my car to date. Aside from the initial cost, there simply ARE NO negatives to having it applied. you can wash it, wax it, use quick detailers on it, anything you do to the paint you can do to the clear bra. there are no swirls, scuffs, scratches, or anything on it, and it defends against just about anything you throw at the front end short of a cinder block.
