Unless you flush at regular intervals from the start, flushing is seriously bad for your transmission. Best to drain and refill at the manufacturer's recommended milestones, not flush.

+1 on this. I had the dealer Flush the transmission in my Acura at a little over 100K per dealer maintenance schedule, and less than 1 month later it died on me.

They ended up paying 90 percent of the cost to replace it.

Never flush a tranny unless you are rebuilding it. Just change the fluids. Also the auto is sealed and GM recommends it not be changed.

I took mine to the dealer for trans service (i have 60k on my odo) and my buddy at the service counter looked at me like i'm stupid and said it should be done at 100k. So i saved myself a nice chunk of change.

U cant change the fluid with out flushing since most of the fluid is in the tq converter and only about 6 or 7 quarts are in the the tranny itself. I had mine flushed and the fluid switched to amsoil about a month ago and the tranny shifts better and i have no problems to speak of.

I'll regurgitate what I posted less than a month ago about the same question asked.

Negative on going with a flush, but a fluid exchange is fine. Yes, there is a difference in the methods especially if the style of flush is the back flush method. A back flush can dislodge debris that can cause problems with the valve body. The pan should always be dropped and the filter should be changed even though it is nothing more than a felt screen. After that, just top off with fresh fluid. Fluid choice is up to you as long as it meets the Dex6 requirement. If a dealer tells you that a "flush" is the latest and greatest "great" thing, then they are lying and only trying to get extra money out of you.

Dex6 is light years ahead of Dex3. Too bad it took GM so long to finally figure that out. Using a boutique Dex6 approved tranny fluid is a waste of money IMO. Any off the shelf Dex6 GM licensed manufacturer is all that would ever be needed. Even though GM is proud of their extended tranny fluid change intervals using Dex6, I would not go more than 50,000 miles even in a non severe service. If it is severe service, I would change it every 30,000 miles.

The 6l80e holds just a tad over 12qts of fluid when bone dry.
