Has anybody installed the Functional Mailslot from ACS?

Check it out here:

I'm considering buying it and just curious what your experience with it is?

Best I could read up on it is that the air doesn't actually go anywhere. Doesn't hit the radiator or the engine. I could be wrong but I did read a few pages into the thread on this. Didn't strike me as a worthwhile mod.

If there are I sort of wonder why GM didn't make it functional.

Too bad you couldn't make it as a functional ram air. That's what I was thinking when I first seen the post.

I did a little research on this a while back...not worth it, especially for the money. There're really only three things to do with the mail slot - vinyl in front of it, delete it, or put the scanner on it.

If you want air flow, there are functional ram air hoods made, I think westcoastcamaros have several options. I'm sure there's at least a few more if you dig

Thanks for the response OzzySS.

It looks like the Camaro in your sig pic has HexVents. I would have thought air coming in from the mailslot and going out through those vents would really help cool underhood temps, especially on a car that had a S/C.

When you say its not worth it, were you thinking in terms of horsepower gain for the cost of the mod? Or some other critieria?

I'm not sure I like the look of the ram air hoods so was looking for an alternative.

With the placement and the size, it wouldn't flow much air into it to make much if any difference. Certainly not enough to justify the cost and hassle.

but if it could be modified to feed into into the Vararam or New Era OTR intake... it could be fully functional, and in high demand.

The amount of air flow that would go through that small of an opening would severely choke the engine. You would have to make some significant modifications to the front fascia to make it worth while.

Does the ACS functional mailslot work. Sure. It will decrease engine bay temps a little and reduce the overall lift but it was designed to go with ACS hood ports and front T3 ports.

I really like my HexVents.

This would be a nice compliment to the Vararam V6 unit, I think.

There is quite a bit you can do with the mail slot to make it functional. There are quite a few pictures of what I did with mine in my build thread, especially on pg 2. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170726
