According to the DMV, (in Nebraska) it is against the law to sell any motor vehicle without a title. Whether it has a lean on it or not.

I got screwed last summer. I bought a truck off Craigslist, the guy didnt have the title. I couldn't license it or drive it. I had to put money into it to make it driveable. I had a truck that was worthless. I ended up getting most of my money back from the original seller because he couldn't provide a title. And I threaten to sue him for the vehicle and the money I put in it.

NEVER BUY A VEHICLE WITHOUT A TITLE. No matter how great of a deal or how much you like it.

If you decide to do it, make SURE you do it thru his bank. Sounds like if it's legit, you're still without a bike all summer before you get clear title.

I would also demand a lower price. Losing a whole year of ride time waiting.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the advice, just got an email, the DMV sent the title out on Monday and they should be getting it today. Everything should work out now.

That's a scam.

When you pay off a vehicle loan, the bank has the title and sends it to you UNLESS, your state is one of several states that don't let the lien-holder carry the title. If this is the case, when the vehicle is paid off, the bank, within 3 days, notifies DMV, and DMV sends the title to the owner.
