Is the stock ls3 clutch really this big a piece of crap?
12ss car 44k miles. Cannot stand the OEM clutch feel. No feeling at all to where the pressure plate is releasing. Additionally some stupid return spring on the clutch pedal, but the clutch pedal still stuck to the floor once on a heavy launch, burning the clutch. It's nearly impossible to get a good launch without it slipping. What's up with this junk

Is the clutch reservoir still combined with the brake fluid reservoir? It'll make the brake fluid filthy.
If you're making decent power it'll slip just from the power being made.... you can tell when you only make one shift and the pedal is sticking to the floor. My tuner had some good instruction of removing the dust shields from the bellhousing for better ventilation and spraying the clutch down with brake cleaner prior to a track day. |

Clutch pedal sticking to the floor??? It's probably this sweet GM idea of using a plastic sleeve for the throw out bearing to ride on. I mean its not like it has any pressure on it or anything.

We would recommend checking your fluid before anything else. Most likely it is a dirty shade of brown/black and will need to be bled. When the clutch is engaged, it releases a small amount of dust, which sometimes works past the slave cylinders seal and into the fluid, contaminating it over time. If the contamination gets bad enough, it will cause poor clutch operation, sticking pedal, etc.
Please let us know what you find upon inspection. |
