The best analogy i can give between the difference of XM and ipod(all products on hi quality rip) is listening to a tape or a CD.

the difference is HUGE!

i dont plan on subscribing after my free 2012
camaro's sub is up or onstar for that matter
the nice app for my iphone is neat, but i can just look at my car for all that info for free.
My cell phone does the rest.

now................

hook me up with a wi-fi system i can purge songs to my car ( jesus whos holding up this easy cheap technology already!) with an on board hard drive ( we need them anyway for the car's systems) and i be on board.

onstar.....XM are just a rip off in the modern world...its a big fail on GM"s part not to innovate this type of system ..
its 2012 people and im almost 40......we get it..so make it already
I use the Spotify radio app (It's free), and if switch back and forth the app sounds way better than the xm does.

I called and tried to renew today. I could not get them to budge off of 6 months for $29.94 or 1 year for $95.00.

They said it would renew automatically at regular rates.

I said I wasn't interested. I am thinking about writing a check for 6 months and if they want to keep me, they can give me another discount.

If you are lucky enough to have a smart phone with unlimited data package, why get XM when you have apps like Spotify, Pandora and TuneIn Radio(listen to regular stations streamed-so you could be on vacation across country and still listen to your favorite FM station from home.) I agree with KidKilowatt, that the sound quality is better in most instances.

I've tried the Bluetooth connection for streaming from phone to cast and it was horrible sound. Using the USB to stream sounds incredible, but you can't move Pandora or iheartradio over us cable that I was able to figure out.

The satellite radio sounds pretty good, I have the factory radio and I'm not a radio/music nut case, so it's good enough for my kind of listener.

I'll pay the bill for this, but what I want to know is if you thrifty (cheap) dudes found ways to squeeze the price of the insanity called OnStar? These folks are insane. I called last week and was told $300 a year, I countered with the fact that I have 2 cars with it and should get a discount. They returned with $250 each or $500 per year as my lowered price. Is there a thread on how to do better with these OnStar folks?

Could always use the auxiliary port as well. To each their own tho. Bluetooth and iPod is enough for me. Just have to make playlist to be effective or set on random shuffle mode. Like others it's to expensive for a service that cuts out in clear areas. During my trial I'd lose reception at times sitting in my driveway.

As many vehicles as I've had with OnStar, I've never been able to get anything other than what is on their sure as far as price goes.

Unfortunately, I don't think you have any options for XM service there.

I feel like I have been getting screwed by XM radio after seeing these prices!! My past 2 year subscription was like 300$ for "XM Select" channels?

Today before reading this thread I called them to tell them NOT to auto-renewal from my bank account for a new 2 year subscription because my subscription ends July 30, 2012. They made me stay on the phone for an hour while I was trying to finish cooking dinner tonight just to tell them don't auto-renewal and it got to the point where I had to talk to two different people about it ( could not ever get them to transfer me to a manager ) . They acted like I could not cancel the auto renewal without being charged a 15$ fee possibly to end it and then she said another $15 re-activate it if I wanted it back if the subscription ended without being renewed. I do not care about $15 to possibly re-activate my account a month down the road but $15 to cancel or not auto renewal sounded bogus. All I wanted was them to not bill me on the 30th or August 1st and it turned out to over a hour phone call being put on hold majority of time. They kept telling me they had to check their resources to see if they could "stop auto renewal". They also wanted me to call back in 4-5 days to tell them to stop it again which I think is pointless if they can go in the system now and make a note or what not of my request. Then they tried giving me offers an deals but they just did not get the point. Tried telling me they'd send the bill to my house and give me 30 days to pay etc etc. By this point I do not even want to do business and give them my money anymore. I do not have the funds (saving for auto radio upgrades) currently please cancel the auto renewal or delete my card information. After all that I think I've decided I will never re-subscribe because they act like they don't want to let you out of your subscription. Big pain in the ass!

Is Pandora through a radio almost identical to XM radio if not better to have in the car? Listen to what you want to listen to for free or pay a cheap cost for no commercial interruptions?

The sound quality over Bluetooth to get from Pandora on the phone over to the radio sounds horrible. I was excited to set up as a Bluetooth audio device, I went through the short process and played around with it.... realized it sucked...deleted it and went back to USB cable. Over USB I've only been able to play the music download into my phones memory card, so far as I can tell you can't stream from Pandora or similar via USB.

If you paid by credit card call the credit card company explain to them to "Red Flag" any payments to XM that you do not want to pay for anymore payments. Xm will have to stop your subsciption.

I am able to play Pandora and I-heart radio via my headphone jack to the single port next to the USB. The trick was finding the line with male plugs on both sides. I think I finally found it at Radio Shack.

Correct...no longer offered. The only "lifetime" packages appear to be SiriusXM employees (and family).

And as with most services, call and request to cancel. The Rep will ask why and offer you a better deal. Current basic offer is 1yr for 1/2 price.
