MID MUFFLE

I recently installed a SLP LMI axleback exhaust and want it louder without doing headers. (i want to keep my warranty)
What difference will cutting out or replacing the mid muffles do exactly?
Any videos or opinions of the two comparisons?

Go buys some High Flow cats. JBA or SOLO make them. For about $300 you'll pick up probably a good 15 rwhp and alot more sound. No need for a tune either so warranty should be good.

The mids are resonators... remove them, it will make a little more sound and its easy and cheap. High flow cats will definitly help with sound if your still not happy.

it won't give it a bad crackly sound or nothing right? it just makes the sound the same but a lil louder?

how do i go about doing that? just cut them out with a sawzaw like i did with the rear mufflers? what takes it's place and where do you get it from?

Do you have an Auto (L99) or a Manual (LS3) trans?

If you have an L99....definately get rid of the resonators. If you have an LS3 you could still get rid of them but it probably won't make as much of a difference compared to L99.

No...to the cracly sound. It will sound just fine.

I would think you would be better off having a muffler shop use a sawsall to take them off and then weld in a new section. L99 will probably cost more because they have a big resonator. LS3 aren't as big.

If you have the money I would tell you to still get the HF cats. I think JBA is a little cheaper than the SOLO brand. Do a search in the V8 section and you'll find some info about them.

And....no...it's not supposed turn on a CEL if installed properly.

Cut them off and put a pipe in its place, easy job if you can weld or have a welder. Heres the thing... without the mids you will have that straight pipe sound and it will be more raspy but much louder, the resonators actually make a nice sound to them. If you have the money, high flow cats with the resonators ON will sound VERY good!

Remember he has a LM1 on his car ( muffler delete ) so no resonators will mean no mufflers at all!

Ahh...good catch. For some reason I thought it said LMII.

If I were going down that route then I would probably take out the resonators and H-pipe and put in either a Magnaflow Tru-X or a resonated X-Pipe.

I don't have this setup anymore but ran it for a good 8mths before going to headers.
