Groan/Grind Noise when turning slowly

So over the last week or so I've noticed a groaning/grinding noise coming from the rear when I'm driving forwards and turning slowly...it's possibly there all the time, but drowned out by the engine/exhaust at higher speeds so I don't notice it.

Anyone else had this issue, or got any ideas what it might be?

700 Miles on it so far

Couple this with the MyLink issue and it looks like a trip to the dealer is needed :(

I just noticed mine doing this after a left turn. Pulled the parking brake and it changed the sound so I'm thinking its in the brakes.

Several people seem to be having this issue. Find a empty parking lot and do several slow figure 8's.If the noise stops its probably your rear diff making noise. If thats the problem your dealer will change out your diff fluid and possibly add some friction mod. or LS add. The tech at my dealership said that if they do this they are required to do the figure 8's after they finish.

My car had it too. You need the rear fluid changed as its the posi unit making the groan. If you do it yourself use extra additive than just what is in the fluid

The cold weather will make this problem more prevalent (as we have noticed with all the recent complaints), it is most likely coming from the rear diff, I have the same problem and just popped up with colder weather. Need to swap the fluid or add some additive.

We apologize for your frustrations and inconveniences that you are experiencing with your vehicle. I would highly recommend taking it to the dealership as you stated. If things don't seem to be going smoothly, please let us know and we can set up a case with GM customer service.

I am having a similar problem with my '12 SS. What really irritates me is that I PAID my dealer to change out my diff fluid just over the Summer because I had read about what was going on with these. But I'm getting INCREDIBLE low humming noise between 1000 and 1300 or so RPMs when cruising or starting to roll. For a while i was wondering if my Borla ATAK system was vibrating incredibly or something, but I'm realizing that it's got to be this differential issue.

SOOOooo, now I'm out the money I paid to have the car serviced when in fact this is a warranty issue. What exactly should I do with this? Thoughts?

To be clear, the car makes the kind of sounds that a stick shift otherwise makes when you drive it in too low a gear for the speed, but in my car it happens when in the appropriate gear for gas mileage, during the computer assisted skip shift, or simply from a gentle roll. I've seen people refer to this as "chatter" but I don't think that's an accurate description for the sound so I want to make sure we are all talking about the same thing.

Talked to local dealer and he told me that this excludes the ZL1. Just as an FYI.

ive read that aswell. also ive read not to run the additive. i had a 2 way lsd in my last car and also was told not to run any additive and to stick with 75 90 gear oil, im going to swap out to motul 75 90 after my first track session in the spring. its a very good ester based oil.

When I took mine in for the same problem, the dealer told me there is a bulleting posted for the ZL1 to expect some chatter from the rear diff. So they did not do anything. I even mentioned it might need fluid change or additive.

change the fluid yourself. It will quiet down almost instantly. Use the GM LS gear oil as rx by the owners manual
