Everyone did a pretty good job explaining it! Our two cents on it is this! If you do a lot of highway driving.....worry about drone! If you don't and if the car isn't driven much, don't worry about it to much!

I do a ton of highway driving, so yes, this is very relevant to my interests. I'll check out Corsas and Solo Performance. Thanks for all the good replies; I guess my old V6 wasn't manly enough to have drone with the magnaflows.

Here is my video with stock, then Borla Atak, then Borla Atak with headers and no cats. It all depends what you can stand. The drone is there. Its worse with the Headers and no cats. I can stand it. I love the sound that comes out of the car. So I can deal with the drone. I turn the radio up a little louder and im good. You have to ask yourself, what do I want? Do I want to be loud as I can be? Do I want some sound? If you want to be as loud as you can be, you really have to look at the Borla Atak. Good Luck!!

They are sponsors on this site, great fitting product, and fast shipping.

Where did you get your Solo Exhaust?

Only from Solo, unless you can find a used set-up, but good luck with that! See the Sponsor section at the back of the forum and give Steve a call. He'll work with you to get you what you need and satisfied at the same time.

An Australian " didgeridoo" is another good way to explain the sound..... not pleasant.

I had serious serious drone until I read the following...

I was about to swap out my exhaust completely - thankfully I didn't have to in the end

You won't really get drone until you go hi-flow cats and a catback exhaust. That's when it will be very apparent if you have drone. Also, try the Flowmaster Pro series. It used to be under the Hushpower brand of Flowmaster, but they did away with the brand name and moved it over to flowmaster.

It sounds pretty mean and is definitely loud when you get on it.
That sounds awesome!

Do you have anyone around in your area that has aftermarket exhaust? I would suggest you drive around with them and get a feel for what exhaust you like and what you don't like.

Every muffler will give you a different exhaust note, but piping diameter (2.5 vs. 3") and longtubes with hi flow cats will increase volume. Some systems will have the headache inducing drone and some will just be a loud exhaust. It's up to you what you can tolerate and what you won't want to put on your car.
That pretty much is it in a nutshell.

Drone is resonating frequency produced by exhaust pulses entering the system from the valves opening. It’s more pronounced on some cars more than others, especially on newer computer controlled cars with fuel-saving spark control on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles.

The drone an exhaust system has is subjective and as you’ve mentioned, it is not limited to Flowmaster mufflers alone. Some drivers are more in-tune with it than others. When we design a bolt-in system for a vehicle, we try to find the perfect balance of tone and performance, there’s a lot of R&D that goes into each system.

Some people have had success reducing drone by insulating their trunk area with extra insulation or sound suppression mat under the trunk carpeting because some drone can resonate from the muffler case, even though most drone comes out of the tailpipes.
