Aftermarket Headers and Exhaust

A friend of the family designs after market headers and exhaust for hi perform. cars. He wants to use my camaro when it comes in to design their upgrade. They will need the car for 2 weeks and will give me the new exhaust and headers for free. Worth it? Will it do anything to my warranty?I'm sure I will get anywhere from 30 to 40 hp increase. But I do have concerns.

I would think you would void the exhaust system but the rest should be fine. It's a thin line when you start modding a car!

Best bet is go ask your dealer and see what they say since they are the ones to put in the claim with GM.

Joe, can you get that much HP? Are the shorty headers that much smaller than whay your friend is willing to do for you?

I just don't know all the details yet. He spoke to my sister. All I know is that he is going to use my car to make the templates for his productions. Does that sound right? It a lot cheaper for them this way, then to buy a car. Thought it sounded like a lot more hp. I have to talk to him myself. Also wondering what it will do to emissions.

probably custom long tube or mid-length headers

with shorties or mids, emissions will probably not be affected, with long tubes, you will need a good tune to stay emissions compliant.

I need your car for 2 weeks. Here's the keys to my prius. Oh yeah, we gotta real world test it too

[after 2 weeks]

Dude! I don't know WHAT happened to your tires! I guess they came that way from the factory with the rubber melted off.

(Just be careful if you do it. Kept inside at nite, fine. 10 mile drive to the dyno afterwards? Fine. 100 extra miles on the car? No!)

Ask your dealer about warrantee issues, get it in writing from the owner or general manager.

Long tubes dissipate heat, takes longer to get cats to operating temp. More hosses? yup. 40 more? ehh, maybe.

Is it QTP? If so, I'd leave it.
