LS1 Help ?!?!?!
Hey guys how is everyone?
Ok well, i have come to the conclusion i am putting in a LS1 into my 1998 chevy truck. i found a 98 from a z28 with less then 60k miles on it with transmission wiring harness and computer and fully complete motor (ac compressor alt power steering everything!) for $3,500. I have a few questions for you. 1. Is that a bad motor because i herd the 99 is better then 98 from newer design. 2. Is that a good price for all of that. i have done some home work here and buying and building my own ls1 is about $4,000 with out transmission, computer and wiring. what should i do? thanks guys |

The 2001-2 LS1's had improved heads over the previous years. Not sure if the 2000 had these heads or not. I believe they had the LS6 intake manifold as well.

few questions...
where are you getting this motor from? what kind of life did it have? will you be keeping the tranny in your truck or swapping it?

its from a salvage yard. all motors have a warranty and are inspected before they sell them and i will be putting the tranny from the camaro in my truck (its a auto). |

if the motor was running, then I would say yes. if the motor wasn't running when they pulled it I would talk them down some.

if you do get it, (and I think I speak for everyone) WE NEED PICS!!!! of EVERYTHING, picking it up, parts, transporting it, pulling the old one out, putting the new engine in, vids of the initial fire up. etc. one thing I was thinkin about... you might try and find a 4l80e. im sure the 4l60e your getting will do wonders (add a shift kit), but the 4l80e is the main gm truck tranny for ls engines.
