Here in Tulsa, many gas stations use up to 10% alcohol in their gas, is this ok to burn in an LS3? Also, this will be my first performance engine and was curious about something else, a guy at work drives a 2002 SS and before he drives it, he will warm engine to normal drive temp, even on a hot day he will warm up engine, is he nuts ?

all new cars accept the 10% Ether mixture its nation wide now.

Oh, and yes, he is....

yes he is nuts. that is actually worse for an engine and promotes more wear. The engine only needs a few seconds to get the oil circulated, then after that the fastest way to get it warm is to drive it. Not WOT obviously, only light load driving. But idling it like that is not the best.

With the tolorances built into engines these days, there is not any need to allow for warm up (especially on a hot day). However, I don't see where it would do any harm, much less promote more wear (other than just no-load run time wear).

Back in my racing days, we would build engines with such tight tolorances that engine warm up was necessary to prevent piston galling etc. Certain parts of your engine will heat up much faster than others, and the clearances between parts will change until the engine is at running temperature. Your friend may have picked this up from someone running a high performance custom built engine. They can't allow that in a production engine, so they build them much more loose.

As others have stated, my recommendation would be to allow the car to run for at least a few seconds to ensure the oil is circulating, then drive it with a light foot until it is up to running temperature........... then stick you foot into and wear a smile for the rest of the day.

Not just new cars. My 1980 Buick's manual specifies 10% as ok...
