Why'd Chevy make the ZL1?
Of course i love chevy, i own a 2011 camaro ss but my question is why did they make the zl1 so under powered compared to the shelby gt500. i used to own a mustang before my camaro and i liked it but the camaro is much better. But why did chevy make the zl1 for the same price as the shelby with 80ish less horsepower?????

The Shelby came out after the ZL1. Also let's not forget that the Shelby also essentially put all of its eggs into one horsepower basket here the ZL1 was the best handling camaro ever (now beat by the Z/28). In anything other than a straight run, the ZL1 consistently beats the Shelby by a margin of a few seconds or more. All in all, the ZL1 is the better car and many reviewers have come to that conclusion too.

The 5.8 GT500 came out after the ZL1. The ZL1 beat the previous 5.4 GT500 which has 550 hp.

you obviously have never priced the gt 500 shelby..once you add the track pack and the optional this and that and a few accessories to make it look decent your way over 70K........And your a monkey on a stick.........lol I almost got a zl1 for its awesome potential and when pricing both it was ten thousand less with the optional everything I wanted and had nice things the gt 500 could only dream of......like HUD, IRS, magnetoreological shocks, automatic lights, heated seats and rear view mirrors, back up cam....etc etc

You can do a million things to make the ZL1 smoke a STOCK GT500 in a straight line, that can't be said about the GT500 aftermarket.
