Transmission and rear end capabilities?

Hi all,
I am curious to know how much hp/tq can the stock A6 trans hold? And the stock axles and rear end?
TIA

I should have bought a ZL1

I think you meant M6 as you have a 1LE. The 1LE comes with a stronger axle than the SS. I have read the same as JCunningham, although, a few have been lucky for awhile at 600rwhp. You really need to focus on your suspension components and get aftermarket toe links, trailing arms, cradle bushings, upper control arm bushings, etc. even at stock hp levels, not only for traction, but also for the survive ability of your drivetrain.

A6 trans is weaker than M6 trans. M6 w/ an aftermarket clutch ~1000 or a little more. A6 6-700 maybe? I don't have an auto so I'm not sure.

Rear end and axles, that will depend on how hard you plan on launching your car. I know guys over 700rwhp on the stock driveline (aftermarket clutch only). How much hp are you shooting for? I'd focus on everything he's got listed below (bushings, trailing arms, toe rods, etc.) and then worry about your driveline.

M6 SS and M6 SS w/ 1LE have the same axles. They have different outer joint assemblies.

If you meant A6, I've run the times in my sig with stock axles. But late last fall I broke the stock diff and swapped in an Eaton TrueTrac.

Depends on how the car is used.

If you are speaking of drag racing with a sticky drag radial you can break things in the car almost stock if you try hard enough.

That being said we have pushed 900 rwhp through a stock SS diff with DSS axles on it for roll racing events without to much of an issue. It is starting to show signs of wear and you can start to hear more gear whine now but it is still in one piece.

The A6 we have seen issues in the Corvette and Camaro as low as 550 rwhp under drag conditions.

I need to change my handle because when I first signed up, I was almost in a 1LE. But decided I wanted the auto (I know, I'm an odd ball). Sorry for the confusion. I don't track the car, but I do plan on a fun street car. My goal is 600rwhp. And plan on driving on some sticky Nitto's. Thanks for the advice on suspension upgrades. Much appreciated. Will the 1LE axles swap out easily enough? Or is there a better choice for axles? While I'm in the pumpkin changing to 3.91's, should I go ahead and upgrade the posi unit?

Things go wrong for stupid reasons all the time. I'm going to try and get into the low 10's high 9's with a built stock diff and stock axles. I know I'm pushing it but if something does break that isn't a simple and affordable fix I'm switching to the moser solid axle 9in.

If you don't plan to drag race much the stock differential could be okay. I had over 300 passes on mine before I broke the spider gears.

Well after reading that article I guess I should wait to get a supercharger and prep my car for a bigger cam and suspension mods. Thats alot of money to upgrade all those. What the hell were they thinking when they made this car???

Okay. I just signed off on a 2010 Imperial blue with silver stripes. 2ss/rs. 35000 miles for $20,500. Good deal? My first upgrade will be a catch can, then probably tackle all the suspension first.......if I can hold off on the "power" bug. LOLdsaf

Also, I had a 2005 dodge ram daytona with the trinity and custom tune. Do you guys know if the Trinity will work on my Camaro?

Are there anymore suggestions as far as putting power to the ground, other than control arms, toe links, cradle bushings, and UCA bushings? I'm about to start ordering!

A good LPW rear diff cover to stiffen the diff as our rear end is all aluminum.....and the set of Poly bushings to go into the diff .....
