in a straight line, I believe so, but if I'm not mistaken its gets eaten up on the track. but anyhow, I came to the same conclusion of the value of the camaro when I bought mine. I ruled out the charger right off the bat because I didn't want a dodge or a 4 door. from there is was between the mustang and the camaro. it seemed like the camaro beat out the stang in just about every way. plus, mustangs are not only a dime a dozen, they're also the muscle car of choice for women it seems.

slowest car I ever had was an (I think) '86 VW golf with diesel motor. Had 87 HP, and keeping up with school bus's was a challenge . but it was the perfect beater. when I owned it diesel was about 69 cents a gallon, and it got 50-60 MPG. I'd put $12 in that thing and drive it 600 miles, or about 2 weeks. and with all the weight of the diesel motor, plus the massive battery, that thing would go through the snow like 4wd truck. |

It's not a matter of opinion. The facts are facts and the posters in this thread seem to acknowledge that. They bought their cars because the liked the look, feel, ride quality, etc. Not because they wanted the end all of performance or they wouldn't have bought the V6 anyway. Get over yourself.

Absolutely, completely agree. I tested over 10 cars priced around (or above) the Camaro 1LS's MSRP. Personally the only stand outs for the best BANG for the buck were the Hyundai Veloster Turbo, the Ford Focus ST, and the Camaro. The Mustang really feels cheap in comparison, +1 to the speakers comment, in the base Mustang they are sh!t.
Personally my favorite was the Subaru WRX, but it was $4000 more and Subaru dealers were not willing to come down very far. That extra $4000 went a FAR distance for modding the Camaro

I was quite the subaru buff (don't shoot me) but when a friend asked why I went with a v6 camaro over a BRZ my simple answer was 123 hp for $3,000 less. Enough said. Can't beat our beautiful cars that's for sure. Plus with the money I got off my camaro it was actually $5,000 less haha!!

Caramo's LS/M6-cheap LT2/A-Liked LT2/RS/A-loved Impreza-cheap/plastic Legacy-liked BRZ(liked-loved) Foucus ST(Powerful, uncomfortable) Mustang GT(uncomfortable) Malibu LTZ or LT2 the premium package-loved FRS-Loved I wanted a 6-Speed Manual under $30k that can survive Cleveland winters. Final 4: BRZ-$29K 91oct 31mpg FRS-$26k 91oct 31mpg Camaro-$31(LT2/RS)-33(LT2/IOM Int.) 87oct 26(?)mpg Malibu LTZ-$34K 87oct 31mpg I liked the body/brand of the BRZ better than the FRS. For some reason the FRS was more fun to drive. Better gearing or better salesperson? I wanted a Camaro since the first time I seen one. The 6m didn't offset the cheap feeling of the LS. The IOM LTS had ugly rims, automatic, wasn't black and was $3k over budget. The LTS/RS had sexy rims, automatic, was almost black, and only $1k over budget. The Malibu was sexy and comfortable. But $4k over budget, automatic and sedan. In the end I believed the heavier weight of the Camaro made it more likely to survive Cleveland winter. The 87oct offset the horrible MPG. My insurance increase for the Camaro was $24 every 6 months, $31 for the BRZ/FRS. It was only $1k over budget and my dream car. The automatic got my wife on board. She refuses to drive manual. The FRS was more fun to drive though, so was my 06 Si.

The camaro lost the best looking title after the 2014 refresh though.

I've just gotta come in here to correct this misinformation that nobody cares about anyway. Your '91 RS with a 305 TBI (throttle body injection) came with 170 hp. The Z28's never had 350 TBI's, but 350 TPI's (tuned port injection), and the highest rated output was 245 hp. Just for clarification, a well maintained 91-92 Z28 with the 350, despite being about 80hp down from the LFX Camaro, would walk away from one handily. less weight and almost 70 lb/ft more torque (345 lb/ft) will tend to do that. Back to your regularly scheduled program... I agree, the 5th gen V6 Camaro is one of the best bang for the buck 'sporty cars' out there. It's the only V6 Camaro that I have ever owned, and ever considered owning. (I've had 9 Camaros) I'd still happily have my 2010 1LT/RS if that girl didn't run that red light. Though, I can't say I'm dissatisfied with my 2012 SS either.

Wikipedia's quote "Power ratings on the 350 TPI were as follows; 245 hp (183 kW) at 4400 rpm and 340 lb·ft (461 N·m) at 3200 rpm. Power rating on the 305 TPI motor were as follows; 230 hp (172 kW) at 4200 rpm and 300 lb·ft (407 N·m) @3200 rpm. Rumors say that these numbers were slightly underrated by GM, but this has not been investigated." |
