Here's a tidbit you might be intereted in that I didn't see in that article...the A123 company that GM is working with for the Volt? They supplied the batteries for that thing.

What a DUMB ASS... I witnessed the same thing happen at my collage. A pro bike racer that owns Michigan Turbo did a demonstration similar to this one. I can remember saying “this is not going to end well” to one of my classmates. There were too many people and no safety barriers. The throttle stuck and it was either a wall at the end of the auto building parking lot, or all the high school kids’ touring the collage. He opted for the wall SPLAT… It ended his racing carrier.

It never fails… When someone is showing off is when everything goes wrong…

Moron

lets see, he wasn't familiar with the feel of the bike. He didn't wear a brain bucket. He didn't do it in an empty parking lot.

keep in mind tho, its not easy to stop something moving that fast in that short of a distance. tho he should not have done any of that in the first place, he should have had his "race" driver doing it if anything

True, true. But if I had a crotch-rocket about to take off beneath me, I'd brake. not accelerate more...:p

You can kinda tell that, too - it started to slip, and okay, he tried to keep it going for the camera...I would've too. But after the bike grabbed the ground that second time, and I know that there's 400 electrical horses, and probably well over 800 lb/ft of torque beneath my a$$...it's brakes for me.

have you ever brake torqued a bike? not to mention the size and tread of that rear tire? mixed with that tiny front tire/brakes. add in the sheer response factor and the fact that when that thing takes off all you can think about is holding on for dear life. oh, and the throttle on their is controlled with a flick of the wrist (and you would be gripping that handle like no tomorrow), when it hooks and jerks you back, you inadvertantly pull harder on the throttle...
