Those are the exact same numbers they got from their Road test of the new GT.

Lots of pictures of both cars side by side. They did say that this Camaro SS was 20 lb lighter than the one they tested last summer, and had more break in miles.
The Camaro and the Mustang both ran 4.6 sec (0-60mph).

390 not 380.

face it mustang owners the SS is really faster.

20lbs = .02 in the 1/4 mile. that accounts for the difference.

255/40-19 are not the standard tires. C&D are idiots. 235/50-18. good thing it is a first drive or i'd be worried a car with a better power to weight ratio, better gearing will lose to an SS

They never said what gear the car had or options the car had though.

I'm just going off the magazine. The stats listed for the Mustang include 3:73 gears and 6 speed manual.

"We expected the Mustang to smoke the Camaro in the sprints, but this turned out to be one of the suprises. The Mustang matched the Camaro to 60mph at 4.6 sec, limited slightly by an extra upshift, but it trailed by half a second to 100mph, and in the quarter mile:13.2@ seconds at 109mph vs 13 flat at 111mph.

The 13.2 matches another run..I forget who did it.

So far the runs have been between 12.7 and 13.2.

It's good to see a battle. There was a lot of initial hype about that 5.0L Mustang. It is good to see a demonstration of the Camaro beating it. It's a close race, and arguing over such a small difference is futile. After all, none of us are hitting the track stock.

It's definately going to come down to who's the best driver. By no means will the 11 Mustang GT walk away from the Camaro SS like a lot of people have been saying.

absolutely true. absolutely. very close race. against a good driver anyway. the modded auto SS cars and auto 2011 GT's should have a decided advantage. racing a m6 is not as easy as most think.

Do we know if they also tested the Camaro SS that day? By the looks of the pictures in the link you provided, Car and Driver also had a Camaro SS at that location. The pictures in the Car and Driver Magazine of the SS appear to be from the same location.

And there is still a Honda civic in every town that will rip both the camaro and mustang a new one. Who cares which is faster, straight line ain't nothing my 7 year old GIRL could mash a pedal and hold a wheel straight My three old son can shift for her. let's go to a real road course that has curves (left and right corner, NASCAR fans) and see the car perform and the driver. who leaves these cars stock anyway?
