Noise from Air Vents

i have a probelm with a noise from the ventilation system.

turning the vent to position 2 and up produces a somehow clattering, crispy sound with a high frequency that is not very loud but annoying.

it is NOT comming from the glove box area.

i really don't know what produces the noise. it sounds like the fan would touch somewhere or a bearing is defect or something like that. it's quite difficult to describe. it does not disappear when i change the air output to floor or windshield or to recirculation. it only alters the volume of the noise a bit.
interrestingly, turning the temperature from cold to hot changes also the intensitiy of the noise. it is loudest near the hot position and then gets clearly more quiet in the hottest position.

perhaps the fan is the problem, but i'm really not sure.

any help would be great.

Is this with the vanes closed? I found that if they are open just slightly, I hear a noise. Fully closed or open a bit more brings the sound.

it doesn't make a difference if the flaps are open or closed. if the middle ones are closed or nearly closed, there is a whistling. but that's not what i'am talking about.

there was a thread about this a long time ago.. I have the same issue... it's like a high pitch squealing noise. . .

Didn't see any fix on this issue though.

I have the same problem ss1 6-speed mrg date 10/17/10

One thing is when i pop the hood the sound is comeing from the motor like
a vac leak but it's not. i hear it in the cab as well. when i rev the motor it
changes pitch it's like a audio system with out a ground loop isolator but
it ant comeing from the speakers!! could it be the main motor drive pulley
balancer rubbing the belt the wrong way?? this is the case in older cars.
I don't know does any one?? it sounds like friction like a high pitch air whistl. ya and they did not mess up and supercharge it LOL dumb asses
this is a real problem that needs addressed. thanks for any help L.J.R

I had started a thread on this last year, I had the fan motor replaced, but that did not fix it. I am sure this is a problem with the vent tubes/line they used, and I do not see any chance this will be fixed. My suggestion is what I do. CRANK UP THE VOLUME!!

my dealer took a look at the car and the fan motor and said that the noise is definitely not coming from the fan motor. like Big_T, he said that it's probably coming from the tubes / airflow and that perhaps this is producing some sort of vibrations or that the airflow itself is producing the noise. he also did not see a way to fix it. he would have to take everything apart and find the spot where the noise is coming from. but this procedure makes no sense to me at the moment.

re:

I have a 2011 1LT and I've had this noise for the past 2 months and I bought this car 3 months ago. It has finally gotten to me and I'm taking it to the dealer this week, but in the meantime has anyone found a solution??

Thanks

If you are hearing what I do, I think it is a part number sticker flapping inside one of the ducts

Mine started yesterday. I think it is the fan that acutally blows the air. Mine is super noticable with the fan speed set one click above off and heat all the way maxed. I can turn the fan speed up and notice a pitch difference. If I turned the fan speed full blast don't notice it.

I am just guessing but I think it has to do with the cold weather gumming up the grease or oil that is on the fan. Like I said this is just a guess.
