2004 F250 6.0L
Worth it to swap in a Cummins? Heard horror stories about the 6.0 Powerstroke.
What all would have to be done to make the swap? Transmission swap needed too? |

Only issue is the OEM head bols strech & cause compression to leak into the cooling system pushing out coolant & causing overheating and eventual failure. Get a GOOD diesel shop, or competent performance shop to swap out for ARP studs and your good to go unless it has been seriously overheated. Ford put several sets of OEM's in mine while under warranty and it always did the same thing.
It's a good motor otherwise and the fix is not expensive. We have done Cummins conversions w/good results though but the cost is high in comparrison. |

Well I'd be trading my boat to the guy with the truck, straight up trade. I'm having to get rid of the boat no matter what so I figure why not get another truck lol. As long as a proper swap would be under $15k or so, money isn't an issue. Do you know what a decent price would be?

A swap would be very pricey. Wait till it breaks if you HAVE to do it.

If money isn't an issue, go with a Cummins and an Allison transmission.

Oh I wasn't planning on swapping it immediately, only when or if something horrid happens to the motor lol. I'd like to at least drive around with the 6.0 for a bit so I can give a real opinion on it ya know?

The ideal truck would be the Ford chassis, the Cummins engine, and the Allison trans.....
But if the truck runs good now just do the head stud swap and you will go 500k plus miles w/out issue. It's only a couple hundred to swap the head bolts. |
