Plastic coolant tank just doesn't make sense to me. That's why I like D3PE reservoir tank, it's made out of aluminum. I heard good things about the katech exchanger, but not for the roto-fab tank.

I'm gonna chime in and say the Roto-fab res sucks. I did a write up a while ago when I got my res but mine came with cap fitment issues. Long story short, Roto-fab sent me another tank and the cap fit great with no leaking issues. Well, that was then and this is now. The cap is leaking again and I have lost my patience with this product. Roto-fab makes the reservoir and LPE sells it. I don't know who to blame but I've given up on the tank. I ordered a D3 tank which should be here soon.

I liked the location of the roto fab tank but like everyone else over time my cap has started to leak!!!! I ended up getting an extra tank when I ordered my CAI last year so I've dropped my extra tank off at a fab shop and I'm getting the identical tank built out of aluminum, that way they can machine the top of the spout( mine appears to leak right where the last plastic thread leaves off ) also I've asked the shop to move the return inlet from the back of the tank to the engine side to shorten that long hose you have to route around the back of the tank. Not happy either, add me to the list

So my question is: Why is roto fab not doing anything about this?

I would think that aluminum tank will absorb more under hood heat than a plastic tank. Someone take temps of both after a hour drive and report back.

You went with the reservoir since you were here, great idea.

One thing to consider the plastic provides a little insulation from under hood heat. Aluminum is great for heat transfer but provides no insulation value under hood. That aluminum will be hot! The custom aluminum reservoirs we made for Super Chiller cars were insulated the same as the Chiller.

Right on. I am a certified welder. I know about heat transfer.
