Loud clicking from engine on cold start

The car sat in the garage for about 5 days. When I started it this morning there was a loud clicking sound from the engine which diminished as it warmed up. Time for a trip to the dealer? Still under full warranty.

Read an earlier post

The guy called it chirping and I said clicking. Maybe the same thing.

Could just be valve train noise. I've been told the LS engines tend to be noisy in that respect. Someone even went so far as to say their engine sounded like a sewing machine.

Mine sounds like it might be a lifter quits after a few seconds

You should hear some of the older 5.3L ls based trucks.

Check this out:
http://www.pistonslap.com/whatisit.htm

I had an '05 GTO that had piston slap on start-up at 3K miles. I read on the GTO forum that GM didn't take it seriously so I didn't bother - it was traded in for my Camaro with a quart of Lucas oil addiditve.

I've heard that it can also be injector noise sometimes.

Thanks all

Turns out I'm going to my independant guy for some suspension mods. (better bushings) and he says he'll check it out and let me know if I should take it in.

I know you said yours is an SS, but my LFX engine sounds a lot like that too. I'm wondering if its something inherent with GM powertrains?

It's normal on some of these motors, as long as it goes away when it warms a little don't worry about it.

It's most likely a lifter your hearing.
There's a GM service bulletin re the lifters on the L99 engine.
Do a search under: noisy lifters. Lots of info on the threads & posts there.
