I couldnt justify to myself spending that kind of money and not getting the SuperSport. I checked the insurance difference with several companies and found one that was quite reasonable. But really it came down to do I want to spend $34000 on a V6 with a bunch of shiny trinkets, or a bare V8 that I can upgrade myself with my preferences?

Think about it, EVERYTHING that comes on the 2LT, be it HUD, Leather, Fiberglass interior, Bluetooth, etc...all of it can be done aftermarket to the 1SS for (relatively) cheap...however, it will be a FAR more expensive proposition to drop a V8 into a 2LT.

So the question then becomes are you willing to put the effort into modding the car? If you just want something thats neat and tidy out of the box for the sacrifice of fun and performance, than stick with the 2LT.

As for me, a week after ordering a 2LT, I called up the dealer and changed my order to a 1SS and I have no regretted it since. My two cents
Of course if you want power you could mod the 2LT to have more power than the SS, too. Mods can be performance as well as appearance/comfort.

My SS is my daily driver as well. All this talk about insurance being a deciding factor is ridiculous. The fact that the car is a V8 does not necessarily make it more expensive to insure. When I was buying my SS I called my insurance company. Turns out the difference between the V6 and V8 was... drumroll please.... $7 a month.

Sure, premium fuel is a bit more expensive than regular grade, but if $10 a tank (at most) is a deal breaker then maybe $35K for a car is too much as well. And as far as mileage is concerned, the V6 gets (advertised w/manual trans) 18/29mpg and the SS gets (advertised w/ manual trans) 16/24mpg. Not too much of a difference there. The V8 auto is slightly better highway.

All this talk of "if it's a DD then get a V6" is so silly. IMO, the more you drive it, the more you'll appreciate the V8. The differences in insurance and gas costs are almost negligible (insurance costs may, of course, vary), yet the fun factor of the V8 over the V6 is very much real.

Food for thought...

Or you could mod the SS and make it faster than the stock SS. What's your point?

What's the cost difference between the 2LT and the 1SS? Maybe 5-6 grand? You're gonna need more than that to get your LLT to outrun my L99. Just saying.

Talking specifically about the quoted item. Buy the SS (which is already more) and start adding HUD, leather, etc.. to make it have the same creature comforts as the 2LT and you've added more to the price to get just to 425 HP. Add a turbo to the 2LT and you are closer to 500 HP. I'm just pointing out there's more than one way to get there, you don't have to drop a V8 in the 2LT. Don't get all upset, wasn't attacking your choice or your manhood.

You don't see any users who went for the SS trying to justify their purchase... Go for the 1SS.

Mine will be a DD, just as my bolt-on LT1 Z28 has been for almost 4 years. I average 15 or 16 mpg each tank. MPG has never been a concern. Might be different for you, just drive both and figure out if you want luxury, or fun.

Just another tidbit to chew on:

I've seen at least one thread like this every week since I started lurking here in November last year.

I went with the 2LT cause I wanted all the bells and whistles. (Leather, heated seats, Boston premium sound, ambient lighting ect) I test drove both the 1SS and the 2LT and although I liked the 1ss power, just didn't want cloth seats and cloth door panels.

My SS is a DD and when I baby it, it gets 23 mpg on average. I do agree though... I you want great gas mileage then pick another car.

If you want comfort get a luxury car. If you want a muscle car, get a SS

LOL, the V6 does have muscle. Maybe not as much as the V8 but man that leather wheel, seats and shifter knob are awefully nice. Either one you choose its still a helluva car. I just preferred the bells and whistles over the bigger motor and 28 mpg is sweet as well.

I had that 3.6L in my Cadillac coupe and got the same gas mileage as in the SS. Is it bad for a V6? No. Is it modern muscle? No. Nothing is like starting up or driving a V8.
