Are you eligible for the GM Family Legacy Program (employee discounts)?

I know this is going to sound a lot like an advertisement, but it is not. It's actually a how-to that I learned while getting into the GM Family Legacy Program. My dad was a GM retiree, and once he passed, I thought that was pretty much it for any further employee pricing. I figure if this information helps someone, then it's great way to get into a new 5th or 6th gen Camaro!! As such, I'm going to post this in the 5th gen and 6th gen forums.

Do you have GM-retired parents who have died that were eligible for the GM Employee discount? If so, you may be able to continue receiving the GM Employee pricing on your next new GM vehicle.

A. Eligible Participants
This program is available only to:

1) Children of deceased surviving spouses who were receiving benefits of GM pension.

2) Children of deceased GM retirees without surviving spouses.

I just became eligible because frankly, I never knew it was possible. My mother died in 2001, my dad never remarried, and he passed away in 2013. I thought it was pretty much it. I have the GM Supplier pricing through my work, but there was a post here on Camaro5 somewhere that mentioned the Family Legacy Program. I looked into it and I got approved for an account today.

1-313-667-7372

Fax 1-313-221-9636

This is how it works:

1. Call the 1-313-667-7372 number above.

2. Leave the requested info for a callback. You will be talking to an answering machine. No way around that. They don’t answer the phone, probably on purpose.

3. They tend not to call back at any certain time, so I’m sure the machine you talked to is just an info gathering message service you leave your contact info to. They’ll call you back whenever. I played phone tag with them several times before resolution. DO NOT keep calling them back. It doesn’t help. In fact, they ask that you only call once, they’ll call you back.

4. When they do call back the first time, they ask for name of parent, date of birth, date of death, and Social Security number. Then they’ll tell you they will check it out and then call you back (usually a few days later)

5. They call back the second time, they will tell you if you’re eligible. If so, they’ll go over the benefits, then ask you to fax them a copy of the following to 1-313-221-9636:

a. Birth Certificate (needs to show your parent’s name)
b. Driver’s License (must be a copy larger than your original license)

6. On the Fax cover sheet, they’ll want the following:

a. Your Name
b. Your date of birth
c. Your email addy
d. Your contact number
e. Your mailing address
f. Name of the deceased retiree
g. The deceased’s date of death

Once they verify the sent fax info, they’ll send you an email where it will have instructions as to how to set up your account with ID/password for GMfamilyfirst.com.

Then go enjoy GM employee discounts where applicable!!!

It takes a little bit to get things going, so you'll need to be prepared for that. Good luck!

Yup! Through wife's uncle. We had no idea. The dealer pried it out of her when we test drove our current camaro and set it all up for us. All we had to do was give our salesman her Uncles phone number.

Man....I'd love to have some way into something like this....but I don't think I have any relatively close family members that worked for GM.

My brother works for a Chevrolet dealership (mechanic), and that's about the closest I can get, and I don't believe that's going to get me anything since its not GM...just a dealership lol.

I'd love to simply get my hands on a GM private offer when the time comes I'm ready to write a check for a new Camaro.

If anyone has any tips, I'll take em!

If your not married you could always hook up with a partner with GM benifts then dump her after you get your ride.

It's the full employee discount? I didn't know this was a thing either. My dad and I always figured once he passed that'd be it.

Program Rules refer both employee pricing and legacy pricing seekers to the same web page while supplier pricing seekers are referred to a different web page.

In another thread, someone asked about what could be a dealer disincentive regarding Program Pricing participation. A biggies, I think, is these dealers (particularly GMS but also GSU) know these deals are subject to extensive auditing.

The GMS audits can include copies of marriage licenses and birth certificates as well as checking vehicle registrations, and there a penalties for -non-compliance. I am sure there are other reasons/justifications for not participating, but I think this is a biggie.

Hi, I am just curious. If you work for a GM dealership are you automatically eligible for a GM Employee Discount? Do you have to be there a certain amount of time? Full time or part time? Does your GM job have to be at a certain status or level?

As far as I know, GM Employee pricing does not include dealers or their employees.
