id run those another 6-8K but that is me, think my fronts are probably around that deep, and figuring it will be next year at the earliest before I get new ones. I drive 2.5K a year or so.

Stick the penny in the "wide" tread... that's the one that really matters. Turn the head side of the penny toward you and sick it in the tread (top of Abe's head down). When you can see the top of Lincoln's head... time for new tires.

Your buddy doesn't know anything, your tires are fine.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is a good, general reference.

I think your Dad is right. You have several thousand miles of tread left.
Save your money, those tires are not cheap. |

thread looks ok but either you hit something or you tire pressure look off (low), because of the weird markings on the side thread.
Oh and if you want to be exact of the tread life, go a buy a gauge. They are like $5 at any auto parts store. |

The penny thing is old school that has gone by the wayside since tire manufacturers added wear bars in the tread. Look at the main groove channel on the tire, you should see these wear bars around the circumference of the tire. they look like bumps in the groove. When they are flush with the remaining tread it is time to replace. Usually I have problems with flats or slow leaks before I hit the wear bars and I just shoe up the whole vehicle at that point. Hope this helps.
