TIG, MIG or both?

Hey....Harley's? My first one was a 37 knuckle....sure wis I never would have sold it!!!! Had the side car frame and all.

Was a cold WI winter and I was broke and it was sitting in the rec room........Oh well.

I know what you mean. If I made a list of all the cars and bikes I had when I was younger someone would dope slap me for ever letting them go. The thing is I don't get attached to them, it seems once I build or modify them the thrill is gone and it's time to move on. The Camaro I have now may be an exception, I have many plans for it and will most likely take sometime to finish, should get me into my old age.

I've never had a need to weld copper but welding is welding LOL.

never seen it done, until jesse james did it on one of his shows, only two people tig copper. not easy, I would probably burn every torch head I had. but would give it a try

Try it, it is not a problem. After you inquired about it I messed around with it when at the shop earlier. It is not that difficult. I used a high amp setting to start and then bached off quite a bit with the foot pedal. You also need to use a larger cup than welding a similar thickness steel or aluminum. When I go in tomorrow I will snap a quick picture of the test piece I did. Besides if Jesse James can do it, anyone can LOL.

I took a quick picture of the test weld. As I mentioned I've never had a request to weld copper so did not have a filler rod or copper stock so I took a couple of pieces of 1/2" copper water pipe and flattened them with a hammer. I then stripped a piece of 10 gauge Romex to use as a filler rod. Considering the thickness of the tubing and filler rod I used I'm sure super clean welds can be easily achieved using proper methods.

Thanks. As I mentioned it was pretty easy, considering the crude mareials and it being a first attemp I can say with great confidence welding copper is a piece of cake.

One of my first aluinum welding jobs was TIG welding aluminum tool boxes... I found that if I drank 2 or more cups of coffee in the morning, I shook so bad I could hardly weld... Had to cut back to 1.

Nice copper weld! Never tried it before, never had the need.

I've never had the need either with all the years I've been doing this stuff but when it was brought up I figure there is only one way to find out and now I/we know it's no problem.
